From lively Lisbon to picturesque Porto, discover the culture and cuisine of Portugal's famous cities on one escape - with flights and train travel
Planning your next escape is always exciting and nerve-wracking in equal measure. So many places to go, and so little time. Well, why not tick two of Portugal's most iconic cities off your destination list at the same time? Start your getaway in Portugal's vibrant capital, Lisbon, where cobblestone streets meet vintage trams, and pastel-coloured houses crown white-domed cathedrals.
Then, after a scenic train ride up the Atlantic coast, you'll spend your last few nights in Porto, the home of one of Portugal's most famous exports: Port. Meander along the riverside and sample this sweet drink, before weaving in and out of the hilly streets in search for the best pastel de natas. It's not all about the food and drink (although it could be, if you wanted): there's a cluster of museums and galleries to visit, as well as Art Deco bookshops busting with stories and character. Cruising down the Douro river is also a must, perhaps at sunset to see the city in a different light.
