Welcome to the Arctic Circle

Nestled in the far north of Noway lies one of the world's most treasured winter wonderlands: Tromsø. Located 350 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle, winter comes hard and fast in Tromsø, freezing all in its path. But out of the cold and the dark springs an altogether unique winter experience. From sledging across icy plains pulled by happy husky dogs, to trekking through soft snow with reindeer to get a glimpse into traditional Sami culture, winter in Norway is an adventure like no other. One of the most coveted sights of winter in Tromsø, however, is not on land. The reason most people are in Tromsø is to catch the most spectacular show on earth: the Northern Lights. Also referred to as Aurelia Borealis, the lights play by their own rules. Sometimes dancing across the night sky in vibrant shades of ethereal greens and blues, pinks and purples, and sometimes no more than a mystical whisp in the dark night sky. There is no guarantee that you will see them, but when you do, the wait will be worth it...

Day 1 - 3: Experience the Northern Lights

On day 2 of your three, four or five-night trip to Tromsø, you will embark on an unforgettable Northern Lights excursion. Wrap up warm and board a comfortable coach in the early evening for this bucket-list adventure, where your knowledgeable English-speaking guide will teach you about the North… Read more

Our tips
  • Up close with majestic creatures

Watch majestic humpback and killer whales as they feed in the herring-rich fjords of the Arctic. Board the silent electric ship allows, and get up close without disturbing the animals. Whale watching season usually lasts from November to February, but of course, it all depends on the whales! A majestic display of the awe-inspiring might of nature.

  • Husky safari in the snow

Embark on one of the Arctic's most memorable highlights: a husky safari! Drive your own team of dogs through the scenic landscape - pair off and drive the sledge yourself, and take it in turns to be the 'musher'! Husky experiences are usually available from December to April, and is a fantastic experience for young or old.

  • Reindeers and Sami culture

Enjoy a short sledge across the ice with the reindeers, who have lived for centuries upon the icy plains of the far north. Step inside a lavvo (Sami tent) to gather around the fire and listen to stories about Sami culture, life as a reindeer herder and enjoy a welcoming joik (traditional Sami song).
