A tranquil stay at a hilltop countryside hotel close to Sardinia’s beautiful Costa Smeralda, with all travel, breakfast and a beach shuttle service
Italian idylls await on the breathtaking island of Sardinia, where white sands and clear waters dominate the coastline, and rugged hinterlands characterise its tempting inland environs. To the north of Olbia - a town with an industrial outskirt and historic centre - and surrounded by forests, you'll find Hotel Rocce Sarde rising up from a hillside for an authentically Italian stay. The overall ambience is one of rustic, unpretentious charm, a place where you can truly kick back and let go.
The surrounding area is packed with sights if you’re keen to get out and explore. On the coast, Porto Cervo is packed with ritzy bars and shops, while unpretentious little seaside towns provide a slice of the ‘real Sardinia’. One of the region’s top draws is certainly the Costa Smeralda: the brilliant beaches are lapped by crystal-clear cerulean waters and backed by scrubland perfumed by wild herbs such as thyme, rosemary and oregano; it’s not hard to see why they’re often lauded as some of the best in the world.
- 3, 5, 7, 10 or 14 nights at Hotel Rocce Sarde
- American breakfast included (option to upgrade to half board or full board; excluding drinks)
- Shuttle bus service to/from Spiaggia Rena Bianca beach
- Private airport transfers
- Return flights from Bristol, London Gatwick, London Luton, or Manchester to Olbia, Italy
Sardinia’s inland is rugged and mountainous, while its coasts are characterised by exquisite beaches and turquoise waters: here, you will find the best of both worlds. And this can be extended to the island’s food culture, too. Inland, traditional dishes are based on meat and mountain produce, while at the coast you can enjoy some of the world’s best seafood dishes. Just like on mainland Italy, food is serious business here and simple dishes using locally sourced ingredients feature heavily in Sardinian cuisine.
Typical island dishes include Su Porceddu, roasted pork – either on spit or in a fire pit – Zuppa Gallurese, a traditional casserole made with bread and cheese, and Fregula ai frutti di mare, a typical pasta dish made with delicious seafood, typically served in a saffron broth, another of Sardinia’s delicacies and also referred to as the island’s “red gold”.
