Optional excursions

If you want to make your trip even more memorable, you have the opportunity to purchase the following optional excursions. All excursions can be booked and paid for in the booking process.

• Arenal suspension bridges (Day 3 or 5) • Experience the amazing flora and fauna of this 3-kilometre-long hike through jungle trails and along the area's 15 dizzying suspension bridges. You will be accompanied by an English-speaking guide who will tell you about the tropical rainforest and show you beautiful viewpoints over the Arenal volcano. The tour starts approx. 7.30am and lasts approx. 5 hours (minimum age: 5 years).

• Pedalboarding in Arenal (Day 4 or 6) • Are you into adventure, nature and not watersports? Then pedalboarding is for you! On a pedal board (not to be confused with a SUP board) you can get the feeling of walking on the water across the Laguna de Arenal. A pedal board is a kind of surfboard where you use pedals and a guide to propel you across the water. Along the way, your guide will tell you about the nature and wildlife of the area. The tour starts approx. 7am and lasts approx. 5 hours (minimum age: 8 years).

• Guided hike in Manuel Antonio National Park (Day 6 or 8) • Discover Manuel Antonio National Park at its best during a picturesque hike with a guide. You will pass the beach and go further into the coastal rainforest - while the guide tells you about the enchanting and diverse flora and fauna. The tour takes place either from the morning or early afternoon and lasts approx. 4 hours. Please note that the park is closed on Mondays.

• Catamaran Adventure at Manuel Antonio National Park (Day 7 or 9) • Step aboard a catamaran and sail past the marvellous nature of the Manuel Antonio National Park. Along the way, the guide will tell you about the remarkable wildlife and plant life and you can enjoy the wild panoramas across islands and cliffs. After lunch, the catamaran throws anchor at Biesanz Beach, where snorkelling is possible. Drinks, lunch and snacks are included. The tour starts at 7am and lasts approx. 4 hours.

Payment

If you book this deal before 35 days of your departure, you can choose to pay in parts. The deposit will be 50% of the deal’s price plus the booking fee and travel and/or cancellation insurance (when applicable). Passport, visa and health requirements

The passport, visa and health requirements (including those related to COVID-19) at the time of booking can be viewed on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website. It is your responsibility to ensure that you and all members of your party are in possession of all necessary travel and health documents, and in compliance with any other immigration/entry requirements, before you travel. Please be sure to check the validity of your passport and allow up to 10 weeks for passport renewals.

Car hire

General conditions for the rental car:

IMPORTANT: The primary driver must hold a CREDIT CARD in their own name with an amount available to cover a maximum deposit of USD 2500. The size of the deposit can vary and depends on the type of car. Please note that a MasterCard Debit can NOT be used. Bring a credit card instead. If you have any doubts about whether your card is a credit card or not, we recommend that you contact your bank.

Your car will be a Suzuki Jimmy or similar model.

When travelling for 8 nights, you will receive the rental car at the nearest car rental office in San José on Day 2 (transport to the car rental office is included). When travelling for 10 nights, you will be handed over the rental car in Guacimo on Day 4. At both durations you will deliver the rental car at the airport in San José on your day of departure.

Please note that if your departure time for your return flight falls outside the rental office's official opening hours, we recommend that you drop off the rental car the day before your departure day and find other transportation to the airport on your departure day.

The rental car will have a full tank of fuel at pick up and must be returned with a full tank.

Unlimited mileage is included.

The primary driver must hold a valid driver's license and have been in possession of the driver's license for more than 2 years.

The minimum age for the primary driver is 21 years.

If you are a young driver between the ages of 21 and 24, a USD 15 charge per day will incur during the rental period (payable locally).

If you wish to add an extra driver, this can be done at the rental office for a fee of USD 10 per driver.

Insurance: full insurance, non-life insurance, third party liability insurance, theft insurance, glass cover, tyres, undercarriage and roof.

Always read the rental agreement carefully when picking up the rental car. We further refer to the Payless Car Rentals (Costa Rica) Terms and Conditions (tel. +506 25289898).

Occupancy

Maximum 3 adults and 1 baby (0-1 years old) per room.

Single supplement

The single supplement is based on travel dates and duration of travel. You will see the final price in the booking process.

Third person discount

The third-person discount is based on the departure date and duration of the trip. You will see the final price in the booking process.

Children's discount

The discount applies to 2 full paying adults per room: Children 0-1 years old: Stay free at the hotels Children aged 2-8 years: The discount is based on the departure date and the duration of the trip. Please continue with the booking process to see the final price. Children from the age of 9 count as adults and pay the full price.

Babies from 0 to 1 years old get a discount on the air ticket, but are not assigned their own seat on the plane or allowed checked luggage.

If you have children under 12 on this journey, it is required that you rent a child seat for the rental car. A child seat costs approx. USD 8 per day and must be reserved in advance.

Infant bed

Unfortunately, cots are not available throughout this trip.

Pets

Pets are not permitted on this trip due to international plane travel.

Transit through USA

In the booking process you can see if you have a stopover in the USA. If this is the case, an entry permit (ESTA) must be applied for. ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) charges an administration fee and the entry permit must be sought in good time. Passport

Visa

Vaccinations

All travellers should be up to date with primary courses and boosters. Vaccinations usually recommended for travel to Indonesia include Diphtheria; Hepatitis A; Tetanus. Consult your doctor or the NHS travel advice website for more information.

The national currency of Costa Rica is the Costa Rican colón (CRC).

Group travel
