Notable highlights include the Timanfaya National Park – a surreal, Martian volcanic landscape – and the Jameos del Agua, a naturally-formed swimming pool in a collapsed lava tunnel. Visiting the island's capital, Arrecife, is also a must, to discover the International Museum of Modern Art located in the old military fortress of San José Castle. On the southern tip of the island you'll find the boiling pots of Los Hervideros, with blowholes in the cliffs created by the sheer power of the waves, where you can get up close on walkways designed by the late architect César Manrique.
