Spend seven nights strolling around Sicily's towns and sites on a self-drive getaway to the east or west - includes flights, car hire, tours and more

If you're clinging on to the last remnants of summer, then perhaps a winter sun getaway can remedy the holiday blues. Embodying plenty of Mediterranean charm, ancient history, and of course, divine cuisine, Sicily offers the discerning traveller plenty to get stuck into. Why not embark on a self-drive trip for seven sublime nights around this Italian gem, choosing between two action-packed itineraries that will give you more than a flavour of what Sicily has to offer. You'll get to enjoy a number of included excursions, and you could even choose to partake in more wonderful optional experiences, ranging from a delectable street food discovery tour in Catania, to a memorable dinner in the historic heart of Palermo.

For those flying to Catania airport, you'll be driving around Sicily's east coast, with the chance to see Mount Etna up close and personal, plus included tastings of chocolate in Modica and delicious fare at an organic production site (from honey and wine to flavoured olive oils). If you choose to fly into Palermo, you'll make your way across western Sicily instead: roam around Palermo's historic centre, admiring a plethora of religious structures, and visit Erice to indulge in local sweets with a glass of liqueur in a traditional shop. Both itineraries include a visit to Agrigento and the UNESCO-listed Valley of the Temples, arguably Sicily's most famous attraction; here, bronze statues and tall-columned temples still stand after centuries, an apt symbol of Italy's lasting cultural legacy.
