Escape on a tantalising adventure across Peru and Bolivia, with a visit to the iconic Machu Picchu - includes flights, tours, and much more

Day 1: UK - Lima, Peru

Arrive at your departure airport in the UK for your flight to Lima. Arrive in Peru's capital city and transfer to your hotel to check in. Spend the rest of the day at leisure before an overnight stay in Lima.

Day 2: Lima

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a half-day guided tour of Lima, including the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, the historic centre and Convent of Santo Domingo, Plaza de Armas, and Parque del Amor, where you can enjoy views of the Peruvian coastline.

Day 3: Lima - Cusco - Sacred Valley

After breakfast you'll hop aboard a flight to Cusco, the former Incan capital, and transfer to the Sacred Valley, a famous area packed full of spectacular scenery and intriguing folklore and legends. En route you'll stop in Awana Kancha, a unique living museum, for a self-guided visit.

Day 4: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

After breakfast, set off for the train station to board an Expedition train to Aguas Calientes, from where you'll transfer to the Machu Picchu - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Spend your time at leisure exploring its otherworldly ruins and sprawling vistas, before returning to the Sacred Valley for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Sacred Valley - Cusco

After breakfast, enjoy your day at leisure in the Sacred Valley, known as the heart of the ancient Inca Empire. Opt for a guided excursion (chargeable) to make the most of your time here: you'll visit Chinchero and the PARWA Centre, the church of Chinchero, the Racchi panoramic viewpoint, and Ollantaytambo and its Incan fortress, with lunch and a Boleto Turistico included. Then, head to the station to board your train back to Cusco, where you'll transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 6: Cusco

Enjoy a half-day tour of Cusco, exploring the lively plazas of this historic city including the Plaza de Armas, the San Blas District and the Korikancha (Sun Temple). Spend the rest of your day at leisure, perhaps soaking up the local atmosphere and sampling local cuisine.

Day 7: Cusco – Puno

Today, jump aboard the bus to Puno and enjoy the incredible landscapes of the South Valley along the way. Discover the 17th-century church of Andahuaylas, featuring an impressive organ, as well as the ruins of Racqui. Later on, enjoy the views from La Raya and visit the historic town of Pucara. Then, check-in to your hotel in Puno, situated close to Lake Titicaca.

Day 8: Puno

Set off today on an unforgettable excursion to the islands of Lake Titicaca. First stop is Taquile Island, which dates back to pre-Inca times and is famous for its weaving, knitting and textiles. Next up, visit the community of Huayallano (on the same island) where the locals show off their traditional crafts and agriculture. After a traditional lunch, visit the famous floating island of Uros, situated right in the centre of the lake.

Day 9: Puno – Copacabana

Say goodbye to the Andean highlands as you catch a bus across the border to Bolivia, arriving in Copacabana. This lakeside village is a colourful place bursting with traditional culture and architecture. While here, explore its delights at your own pace: there’s the 16th-century basilica, plus exceptional views of Lake Titicaca to be had from Calvary Hill.

Day 10: Copacabana - La Paz

Ease yourself into the morning with a half-day trip to Isla del Sol, navigating the tranquil waters of Lake Titicaca. From here, it's on to Bolivia’s administrative capital - La Paz - perched high in the mountains and buzzing with energy. You’ll catch a bus to La Paz, which takes around 4-5 hours. The highest capital city in the world, La Paz is situated 3,640 metres above sea level. Soak up the evening ambience and indulge in authentic Bolivian cuisine.

Day 11: La Paz - Uyuni

After breakfast, you’ll head off to the airport to catch a flight to Uyuni, home to the awesome salt flats which form a unique landscape that hosts pink flamingoes, volcanoes and giant cacti. Settle in to your new hotel, and even opt to witness the beauty of the salt flats on an optional stargazing tour (fees apply).

Day 12: Uyuni - La Paz

If you didn’t bear witness to the salt flats the night before, this morning you’ll see them in all their glory. After, you’ll pay a visit to the Train Cemetery, a relic of an abandoned 19th-century project to expand the country’s network of trains. You'll see a family-run salt business in action in Colchani, before witnessing the peculiar creation of Palacio de Sal Hotel, the world’s first hotel made entirely of salt. After lunch and a glass of wine watching the sun set over the salt plains, you’ll take an overnight bus to La Paz.

Day 13: La Paz

Your final full day will be spent back in Bolivia’s capital, La Paz. Spend the day exploring by yourself, wandering around its markets, museums, and shops, or arrange one of two optional excursions: a half-day tour of La Paz where you’ll follow in the footsteps of locals, or a Moon Valley excursion to see the lunar-like landscapes just beyond the capital (fees apply).

Day 14: La Paz

Sadly, it’s time to say goodbye to your epic South America adventure and board your flight back to the UK.
