Tour Peru's ancient civilisations and the wonders of Ecuador, including Machu Picchu and Galapagos Islands - includes breakfast, excursions and travel

Day 1: UK - Lima, Peru

Arrive at your departure airport in the UK for your flight to Lima. Arrive in Peru's capital city and transfer to your hotel to check in. Spend the rest of the day at leisure before an overnight stay in Lima.

Day 2: Lima

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a guided educational tour of Lima, including the districts of Miraflores and San Isidro, the historic centre and Convent of Santo Domingo, Plaza de Armas, and Parque del Amor, where you can enjoy views of the Peruvian coastline. Overnight in Lima.

Day 3: Lima - Cusco - Sacred Valley

After breakfast you'll hop aboard a flight to Cusco, the former Incan capital, and transfer to the Sacred Valley, a famous area packed full of spectacular scenery and intriguing folklore and legends. En route you'll stop in Awana Kancha, a unique living museum, for a self-guided visit. Overnight in the Sacred Valley.

Day 4: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu

After breakfast, set off for the train station to board an Expedition train to Aguas Calientes, from where you'll transfer to the Machu Picchu - a UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the New Seven Wonders of the Modern World. Spend your time at leisure exploring its otherworldly ruins and sprawling vistas, before returning to the Sacred Valley for an overnight stay.

Day 5: Sacred Valley - Cusco

After breakfast, enjoy your day at leisure in the Sacred Valley, known as the heart of the ancient Inca Empire. Opt for a guided excursion (chargeable) to make the most of your time here: you'll visit Chinchero and the PARWA Centre, the church of Chinchero, the Racchi panoramic viewpoint, and Ollantaytambo and its Incan fortress, with lunch and a Boleto Turistico included. Then, head to the station to board your train back to Cusco, where you'll transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 6: Cusco

Enjoy a half-day tour of Cusco, exploring the lively plazas of this historic city including the Plaza de Armas, the San Blas District and the Korikancha (Sun Temple). Spend the rest of your day at leisure, perhaps soaking up the local atmosphere and sampling local cuisine.

Day 7: Cusco - Lima

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Lima. Arrive and transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 8: Lima - Quito, Ecuador

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Quito, the capital of Ecuador. Arrive and transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 9: Quito - Tena - Amazon

After breakfast, set off for the Ecuadorian highlands and down into the rainforest, stopping in Tena in the Amazon. Continue towards your lodge accommodation in the heart of the jungle, and arrive in time for dinner and a night walk to admire the nocturnal wildlife. Overnight in the Amazon.

Day 10: Amazon

After an early breakfast, set out for a wildlife walk to soak up the fantastic tropical wildlife across the Amazon's primary and secondary rainforests. Return to the lodge for lunch and spend the afternoon at leisure, with the option of joining in on optional Amazon activities at the hotel. Later in the day, enjoy dinner on site and an overnight stay.

Day 11: Amazon - Tena - Middle of the World - Quito

After breakfast, return to Tena and then journey on back to Quito. En route you'll visit the Middle of the World monument, located on the equator, where you can stand with a foot in each hemisphere. In Quito, enjoy a guided city tour before transferring to the hotel and spending the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 12: Quito

After breakfast, spend the day at leisure or opt to join an entrancing excursion to Quilotoa Lake (chargeable): you'll set off through the Andean Mountains, passing by the snow-capped peaks of Tungurahua and Chimborazo and visiting a local market for a taste of Andean culture, before arriving at Quilotoa Crater Lake, known for its ever-changing colour.

Day 13: Quito - San Cristobal, Galapagos

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to the Galapagos Islands. Arrive into San Cristobal, the easternmost island which Charles Darwin first explored during his time here, and check into your hotel for a rest before a brief afternoon tour of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno. Spend the remainder of the day at leisure, or opt to join a ceviche-making experience at a local restaurant near the beach of Playa Mann. Overnight in San Cristobal.

Day 14: San Cristobal

After breakfast, set off on a full-day San Cristobal tour: visit the giant tortoises of Galapaguera, the sea bird species and white sands of Puerto Chino and the sea lions resting upon sun-bathed rocks in La Loberia. Return to your hotel for an overnight stay in San Cristobal.

Day 15: San Cristobal

After breakfast, spend the day at leisure, exploring San Cristobal before an overnight stay. For a complete experience, choose to add an optional excursion package to your stay, which will include three fantastic tours (chargeable).

Day 16: San Cristobal - Guayaquil

After breakfast, head to the airport for your flight to Guayaquil, where you'll join a shared transfer to your hotel. As the largest city in Ecuador, Guayaquil makes the perfect last stop on your itinerary; here you'll enjoy a walking tour to explore the Malecon 2000 boardwalk, the iguanas that freely roam in Parque Seminario, and the neighbourhood of Las Peñas.

Day 17: Guayaquil

After breakfast, spend the day at leisure before an overnight stay in Guayaquil.

Day 18: Guayaquil - UK

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. Depending on your flight time, your return flight home may be overnight, and you'll arrive back into the UK on Day 19. If you've enough time before your flight, why not opt to join a boat excursion from Puerto Morro, for one last chance to soak up wonderful vistas (chargeable).

Please note that both your outbound and inbound flights are overnight, so please bear this in mind when planning the time you'll be away. The date you select as your check-in date will be the day you'll fly out from the UK, and you'll arrive in Peru the following day to commence your 17-night holiday. The check-out date will be the day that you'll board your inbound flight back to the UK. Since your inbound is also overnight, you'll be away for a total of 19 nights.

Flight times and carriers will be confirmed by Exoticca after you have made your booking. Passport, visa and health requirements

The passport, visa and health requirements at the time of booking can be viewed on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for UK citizens, and on the Department of Foreign Affairs website for IE citizens. It is your responsibility to ensure that you and all members of your party are in possession of all necessary travel and health documents, and in compliance with any other immigration/entry requirements, before you travel, including whether your passport must be machine readable or which visas/waivers may be required for entry, such as ESTA for USA travel and/or ETIAS for EU travel. Please also be sure to check the validity of your passport and allow up to 10 weeks for passport renewals.

Expedition train baggage

Please also note, the baggage policy on board the Expedition train is one bag or backpack per person, weighing a maximum of 5kg/11lb. Backpacks or bags taken into Machu Picchu must not exceed 40x35x20cm or have a capacity larger than 20Lts, and must not contain single-use plastic bottles or bags. Backpacks or bags that exceed the indicated measurements can be left in storage for approximately $2 per bag.

Good to know

Please note, if your outbound and/or inbound flights depart in the early hours (before 4am), you must arrive at the airport the night before the indicated departure day. If your flight arrives into Lima in the early hours of the morning and you wish to access your hotel guest room by 2pm, you'll have the option to book early check-in for an extra charge.

Deposit

Please note that a deposit of 35 % of the travel price must be paid within 72 hours of your booking; the remaining balance of 65 % is due no later than 60 days before departure. The travel booking only becomes binding when you receive our travel confirmation

Documentation

Documentation of the internal flights will either be available in the "My bookings" section in your "Customer Area" 14 days before your trip or delivered to you on arrival at your destination. It is essential to fill in the passport information correctly for each passenger in the given boxes at the end of the reservations process.

E-ticket & check-in

Remember to download your e-ticket to confirm the times of your flights and to complete online check-in using the airline’s website, or directly at the check-in desk at the airport.

Galapagos travel

Galapagos transit control card (TCC) is mandatory and is checked at the airport in both Quito and Guayaquil before travel to the Galapagos Islands. Cost US$20 per person (subject to change) and made by cash payment.

At the airport Galapagos passengers must present their transit control card (TCC) with their passport and pay the entrance fee to the Galapagos National Park. Cost: US$100 per person.
