One of the newest of Lanzarote’s resorts, Playa Blanca, in the far south of this Canary island, makes for a laid-back, easy-going getaway. Boasting a large yacht marina, plenty of cafes and a relaxed vibe, it oozes an air of quiet sophistication. Slow the pace down even further with a stay at the adults-only Elba Premium Suites, located just a little way out of town. Part of the Elba Lanzarote Royal Village Resort, the all-suite accommodations are set in an exclusive and blissfully private area, where peace and quiet is a given.
Of the resort’s beach selection, the most central is Playa Blanca itself – a Blue Flag-winner, backed by a cafe and bar-lined promenade. From here, it’s only a few minutes’ stroll west to the quieter Playa Flamingo, where locals fish for octopus and barracuda. A shuttle service leaves from the hotel a few times a day to Playa Dorada, known for its array of watersports. Just 15 minutes’ drive takes you to the boiling pots of Los Hervideros, with blowholes in the cliffs created by the sheer power of the waves, where you can get up close on walkways designed by the late architect César Manrique.
