A peaceful nook of Italy with Medieval streets, picturesque harbours and some of the best food on the continent, the southern coast knows how to charm. Fashionable as it may be, the region's capital city of Bari retains much of its old-world character and laissez-faire appeal. Spend your day strolling the winding alleys of the Old Town, with its Romanesque architecture, such as the Cathedral of San Sabino, and the Basilica of Saint Nicholas. Then head to one of the (handmade) gelato shops before wiling away a lazy afternoon sampling local wines and regional cuisine, or relaxing in your hotel's basement Thermarium Spa (which has a real Roman bath).

During your stay in Bari, you'll get the chance to head on a private tour of two picture-perfect locations. First is Alberobello, which sits in the Itria Valley and is renowned for its iconic trulli buildings; there you'll sip and savour delicious wine and snacks during a tasting session in a typical trulli wine bar. Cruise itinerary

Day 1: Bari, Italy

After three or four nights at Corte Altavilla Relais & Charme, trasnfer to Bari port to begin your cruise across the Mediterranean.

Day 2: Day at sea

Sail through the open waters, enjoying endless sea views (whilst finding your sea legs, sailor). Then make the most of the luxe amenities aboard the ship.

Day 3: Santorini, Greek Islands

Cast anchor on Santorini, the Cyclades' most romantic island known for its striking volcanic landscapes, whitewashed towns and sizzling cosmopolitan scene. Whether you opt for a panoramic hike with a spectacular sunset or high-end shopping and gastronomy, you'll be falling head over heels for the island in no time.

Day 4: Piraeus (Athens), Greece

Today you’ll dock into Piraeus early, giving you the whole day to explore Athens to your heart’s content. Visit the many fascinating ancient ruins in the city, including, of course, the beautiful Acropolis. Learn more at the Acropolis Museum before retiring to a coffee shop in nearby Monastiraki for the afternoon.

Day 5: Katakolon (Olympia), Greece

A tranquil seaside town in southwestern Greece, Katakolon is one of the Grecian coastline's best-kept secrets, boasting untouched nature, sprawling beaches and an inviting small-town feel. Saunter through the pretty port area, and if time allows, head inland to see the ruins of Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games.

Day 6: Corfu, Greek Islands

Next up, it’s off to the island of Corfu, whose delightful towns and capital city are a reminder of its colourful past as a British, French and Venetian colony. The sea is the star of the show here, but you’ll also find everything from fortresses and 19th-century palaces to Byzantine monasteries and archaeological sites, plus a lively local scene for all your cosmopolitan pursuits.

Day 7: Cephalonia, Greek Islands

Say goodbye to Corfu as you head to its lesser-known neighbour Cephalonia, a stunning and secluded island widely renowned for its mouthwatering gastronomy and pristine natural scenery. While away your time on one of Greece's finest beaches, or perhaps strolling through colourful little villages and sampling fresh local cuisine.

Day 8: At sea

Spend another day at sea, taking in vistas of the Mediterranean while enjoying the amenities the ship has to offer.

Day 9: Bari, Italy

Today you'll arrive back in Bari, where you'll disembark and transfer to the airport for you flight back to the UK.
