Day 1: UK - San José

Board your flight from the UK to San José, capital of Costa Rica, and transfer to your hotel. Overnight in San José.

Day 2: San José - Tortuguero

Set off early towards Tortuguero, with a stop along the way for breakfast. Pass through the rich and vibrant Braulio Carrillo National Park, before arriving in Tortuguero and checking into your hotel in time for lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy a fascinating tour of Tortuguero, including the Turtle Conservation Museum and lively village. Take a boat ride through the leafy canals back to your hotel and spend the rest of the day exploring at your leisure. Dinner and overnight in Tortuguero.

Day 3: Tortuguero

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a relaxing boat trip along the canals of Tortuguero, admiring the abundant flora and fauna as you go (please note, entrance fees to Tortuguero National Park are not included; approximately $15 per person is payable locally). Return to the hotel for lunch, then spend the afternoon free at your leisure. In the evening, we recommend taking the opportunity to see the turtles spawning on the beach (July - September). Dinner and overnight in Tortuguero.

Day 4: Tortuguero - Guapiles - Arenal

After breakfast at the hotel, set off in the morning for the charming city of Guapiles, arriving in time for lunch. Continue to La Fortuna next, home to the spectacular Arenal Volcano. Arrive at your hotel and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring at your leisure. Overnight in Arenal.

Days 5-6: Arenal

On day 5, after breakfast at the hotel, spend a relaxing morning at your leisure. In the afternoon, meet your guide in the hotel lobby and embark on a guided hike to the Arenal Volcano, through trails marked with the remains of previous lava flows. Along the way you'll discover abundant flora and fauna which call the rainforest home, and your guide will tell you all about the volcano's history and activity. After the hike, you may opt to choose between a selection of popular hot springs in the area, to relax and enjoy naturally heated waters. Overnight in Arenal.

On day 6, after breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a day at leisure or opt to join one of two excursions: a half-day horseback ride across pastures with incredible volcano and lake views (lunch included), or a sloth observation tour at the aptly-named Lazy Territory site. Overnight in Arenal.

Day 7: Arenal - Monteverde

After breakfast at the hotel, set off in the morning towards Monteverde, travelling along the banks of Lake Arenal for breathtaking views of the volcano. Cross the lake on a shared boat service and continue by road for the remainder of the journey (please note, the boat service may be replaced by a road transfer around the shore of Lake Arenal). Arrive in Monteverde, home to one of the richest and most diverse rainforests in the world, filled with extensive trails, abundant wildlife, and astounding natural beauty. Check into your hotel and enjoy an afternoon at leisure, with the option of joining an exciting Monteverde Canopy High Ropes tour amidst the treetops (long trousers, a light jacket and comfortable shoes are recommended). Overnight in Monteverde.

Days 8-9: Monteverde

On day 8, after breakfast at the hotel, embark on an exciting unguided Hanging Bridges excursion for great views of the treetop wildlife of Monteverde. Traverse a route of approximately three kilometres, crossing a combination of trails and hanging bridges which criss-cross the abundant 'cloud forest'. This is a unique and thrilling way to experience the best of Costa Rican wildlife, away from the hustle and bustle of the rainforest floor. Return to the hotel and spend the rest of the afternoon free at your leisure. Optionally, join a night walk for a chance to encounter local nocturnal wildlife. Overnight in Monteverde.

On day 9, after breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a day at leisure in leafy Monteverde. You've the option of joining an excursion to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, for the chance to spot a dizzying array of wildlife from butterflies to jaguars, across varied landscapes from swamps to cloud forests. Overnight in Monteverde.

Day 10: Monteverde - Tamarindo

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to Tamarindo in the province of Guanacaste, known for its beautiful beaches and surfing. Arrive at the hotel and spend the rest of the day at leisure. Overnight in Tamarindo.

Days 11-12: Tamarindo

On day 11, after breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a day at your leisure, soaking up the sunshine and relaxing on the idyllic underdeveloped beaches of Tamarindo. Opt to join a Tamarindo Estuary boat safari in Las Baulas National Park, for the chance to spot unique flora and fauna amidst lush mangroves. Overnight in Tamarindo.

On day 12, after breakfast at the hotel, enjoy some time at leisure on dreamy beaches bathed by the Guanacaste sun. Optionally, enjoy a morning catamaran tour: spot whales, dolphins and rays, and discover underwater life with a snorkelling experience (buffet brunch included). Overnight in Tamarindo.

Day 13: Tamarindo - San José

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer back to the capital San José, to spend your last night. Spend your time here at leisure, visiting the National Theatre of Costa Rica or enjoying a delicious dinner at a local restaurant. For a great overview of the city, join an optional bus tour of landmark sights, including the National Theatre, Art Museum, Metropolitan Cathedral and Central Market, to name a few (traditional dinner included). Overnight in San José.

Day 14: San José - Night on board

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and transfer to the airport to board your overnight flight back to the UK.

Day 15: UK

Arrive in the UK, where your trip ends.

An 8kg hand luggage and 23kg hold luggage allowance per person is included, as well as shared transfers in air-conditioned vehicles.
