Southern Aegean
The tranquil Greek island of Kos boasts some of the most dazzling beaches next to the glittering turquoise hues of the Aegean. Mitsis Summer Palace lies a little outside the lively resort town of Kardamena, where you’ll find a slew of bars, eateries and more. On the other side of the island (around 30 kilometres away) you’ll find Kos Town, the island’s capital, which boasts a fishing boat-thronged harbour and lovely, traditional whitewashed buildings.
Kos has a rich history, showcased by the remaining Roman ruins, ornate Venetiran palaces and striking Ottoman mosques that are sprinkled around. But it’s not only Kos you can explore: there are a number of smaller islands nearby where you can arrange boating excursions to. Take Nissyros, for example, where you can descend into a volcanic crater, or Kalymnos, famed for its natural sponges and stunning little port town.
