Solin
You’ll be staying in the peaceful town of Solin, the gateway to Croatia’s ancient Roman city of Salona – the swathe of land famously dotted with 2,000-year-old stone ruins.
Once you’d had your fix of ancient relics at this archaeological gem (including marvelling at the mighty Klis Fortress that was a Game of Thrones filming location), be sure to spend time in nearby Split – one of the Med’s most compelling cities and the second-largest in Croatia. Must-dos here include visiting the UNESCO-listed, white-stoned Diocletian's Palace, strolling along the seaside promenade, swinging by the interesting museums and art galleries, hiking up Marjan hill and chilling out on the beach. Should time allow, it’s worth venturing to Brac Island for the stunning white pebble beach that is Zlatni Rat (Golden Horn) and Hvar Island for its beautiful lavender fields.
