Torre dell'Orso
Set in the 'heel' of Italy's 'boot', Salento is a postcard-pretty region of crystalline waters, hidden coves and sandy bays. It's here, a 30-minute drive from the historic city of Lecce, that Borgo Sentinella is located, a stone's throw from the turquoise bay of Torre dell'Orso, where a Blue Flag-awarded beach lures visitors to its silver-tinted sand and crystal-clear waters.
Flanked by sheer cliffs and a pine grove, the 900-metre bay is famed for Le Due Sorelle (The Two Sisters) – a pair of rocky promontories which jut high above the water and the only interruption to the blue-on-blue vistas. Be sure to venture out to Lecce during your stay: this creamy sprawl of baroque buildings is the jewel in Puglia's crown, with its pretty piazza, ornate cathedral and statue-adorned basilica.
