  • A magical setting: Just 15 minutes’ drive from Saint-Malo's centre you’ll find Château Hôtel du Colombier, a pretty-in-pink boutique base set within six hectares of gorgeous parkland. It’s a great base for exploring the coast, and you'll love spending a few nights here, bedding down in a characterful room packed with original features as well as dining on sumptuous Breton cuisine.

  • Rich local flavours: Specialising in Breton cuisine, the restaurant offers a menu of tempting, innovative cuisine. Produce is sourced locally depending on what’s fresh and in season, and dinner and lunch are served either in a grand, wood-panelled dining room or in the sun-filled conservatory. A hearty breakfast is available each morning, overlooking the gardens.

  • Charming accommodation: The guest rooms at Château Hôtel du Colombier are packed with character, and feature antique furniture such as four-poster beds and bistro table-and-chair sets at which to enjoy a morning coffee. You might find yourself in a cosy room with sloping ceilings up in the eaves, or overlooking the park and pond.

How to get there
Just a 15-minute drive from the centre of walled port city Saint-Malo, this hotel is close to some of Brittany’s best beaches and is a great base for exploring the area, including the famous island settlement at Mont Saint-Michel, which can be reached in under an hour.  Dinard-Pleurtuit-Saint-Malo Airport is about 14 kilometres away (approximately 20 minutes' drive), while Rennes-Saint-Jacques Airport is just over 75 kilometres (an hour's drive).

Saint-Malo

Wide cobalt skies with scudding clouds, huge tides, thick ramparts and marinas clinking with the musical sound of rope on mast: Saint-Malo is a pretty port town on the coast of Brittany, with a fascinating history dating back to the 12th century. Walled fortifications have stood the test of time and the notoriously malevolent storms, and in the summer it’s a classic pilgrimage for holidaymakers making the short hop across the English Channel to explore broad beaches and curious granite islands.

Explore the cobbled streets of Saint-Malo’s old town to learn about the pirate invasions by the English of the 17th and 18th centuries – relations have much improved since then – or check the tide times before a trip out to the two islands which can be reached at low tide. Stroll along the wide sandy beaches for a bracing walk, or hop in the car to explore the Mont Saint-Michel along the coast – the world-famous abbey makes for some very atmospheric photographs.
