Rural Italian charm: Tucked away in rural Brentonico in Trentino, sitting peacefully between the culturally rich Venice and an hour or so away from the naturally stunning Lake Garda, lies Hotel San Giacomo Gourmet & Spa. Beautifully decorated and undergoing a revolutionary makeover due to be completed in December, you'll find a renovated entrance, a precious hall and lobby space, and a spectacular reception at this four-star hotel.
Serenity at the spa: With Alpine views in the distance and the heady aromas of essential oils around you, it would be difficult not to unwind at the spa. A staggering 1500 square metres, the Natur spa (which has also undergone a slight renovation) consists of swimming pools, Turkish baths, a sensory lagoon, a whirlpool - the list could go on. A selection of pampering treatments are also available (for an additional fee).
Exquisite culinary taste: Natural ingredients, local producers, and homemade dishes characterise the Michelin-listed restaurant. What better way to complement this delectable menu than with something from the wine cellar - a sommelier will be on hand to help you decide. Even the dêcor itself screams refinement: wooden touches and stuccoed ceilings bring a little Italian glamour to your rural surrounds. There's also a bar and bistro, where you can grab a drink and cosy up by the fireplace.

How to get there

Hotel San Giacomo is a 10-minute drive from Brentonico. The nearest railway station is Rovereto, about half an hour away. If you arrive from Milan, it will take you about three hours to reach the hotel, taking the A4 to Peschiera del Garda and taking the Brennero motorway (A22) in the Affi-Lago di Garda Sud area.

Being just two minutes from the ski lifts and only 100 metres from the start of the cross-country ski trail, plus countless snowshoe trails, wintry outdoor pursuits await. The welcoming ski slopes of Polsa di Brentonico can also be reached by car in 30 minutes. There's also plenty to keep you busy in the summer: wander through the botanical beauty that is the Riserva Naturale Integrale Gardesana Orientale; stroll along the Riviera del Garda, which is just under an hour's drive away; and while away an afternoon with art and culture in Rovereto.
