Epic escape taking in the historical highlights of Dubrovnik, Split, Opatija and Zagreb, with a Plitvice Lakes tour, breakfast, flights and transfers
Day 1: UK - Dubrovnik, Croatia
From your chosen departure airport in the UK, fly to Dubrovnik and transfer to your hotel upon arrival. Situated in southern Croatia and overlooking the glistening waters of the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik is well known for its incredible old town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Home to stunning architecture and a vibrant cultural and foodie scene, this city is a must-visit. Settle down at your hotel and spend the remainder of the day at your leisure, exploring Dubrovnik's atmospheric alleyways and taking in the sweeping sea views. You may even recognise parts of the old town from the popular TV series, Game of Thrones! Dinner and overnight in Dubrovnik.
Day 2: Dubrovnik
After breakfast at the hotel, set off on a sightseeing tour of the old town. Completed in the 13th century, the ancient city of Dubrovnik remains largely unchanged. Its medieval ramparts encircle the old town, which can be entered through one of two historic gates. Cross an impressive stone bridge under the watchful gaze of the city’s patron Saint Blaise, and explore the broad, stone-paved promenade known as Stradun. Some of the most prominent sights in the city include St. Blaise Church, the Renaissance-era Sponza Palace, and the Gothic Rector’s Palace. After the tour, spend some free time exploring the city at your own pace, before returning to your hotel for an overnight stay.
Day 3: Dubrovnik - Split
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and leave Dubrovnik behind for the many charms of Split. As the country's third-largest city and one of its most sought-after coastal destinations, it's home to a fascinating old town that features the remains of the fourth-century Diocletian's Palace. Once you've checked into your hotel and settled in, you'll get to marvel at this splendid landmark and more on a walking tour, as well as enjoy some free time at your own leisure. Overnight in Split.
Day 4: Split - Plitvice Lakes - Opatija
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and continue your Croatian adventure with a three-to-four-hour visit of Plitvice Lakes National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and place of exquisite natural beauty. Accompanied by an expert guide, take a walk through ancient woodlands and follow the path across Gornja Jezera (Upper Lakes), towards the Lower Lakes and more scenic trails. You'll then continue to Opatija, a coastal town known for its Habsburg-era villas and beautiful beaches. There, you'll check into your hotel and spend the evening at your leisure, before dinner and an overnight stay.
Days 5 - 6: Opatija
After breakfast on Day 5, embark on a city tour to discover Opatija's rich history and aristocratic legacy. Situated on the picturesque Kvarner Bay, this spa resort was once favoured by the Habsburgs and other European aristocrats. As you stroll past exotic plants in the colourful Angiolina Park, and along the Lungomare promenade surrounded by charming Austro-Hungarian villas and residences, you'll gain a true sense of Opatija's old-world charms. Later, enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure, perhaps with some beachfront relaxation or a spot of retail therapy. Overnight in Opatija.
On Day 6, enjoy breakfast at the hotel and spend a relaxing day in Opatija at your leisure, perhaps exploring the Croatian Museum of Tourism or sampling the delicious Mediterranean cuisine on offer. Alternatively, join an optional excursion to the Istrian Peninsula and the 2,000-year-old Pula Colosseum, complete with a leisurely stop in Rovinj and truffle-tasting in Motovun (fees apply). Overnight in Opatija.
Day 7: Opatija - Zagreb
After breakfast at the hotel, check out and journey on to the culturally- and historically-packed Zagreb, where you'll check into your hotel and set off on a walking tour to explore the city's most emblematic sights. In the medieval-era Upper Town, you'll pay a visit to St. Mark's Church, Parliament Building, Government Palace, and countless other historical buildings. Then, spend the rest of the day at leisure - for a relaxing afternoon, be sure to discover the outdoor cafes that line Tkalčićeva Street. Overnight in Zagreb.
Day 8: Zagreb - UK
After a final breakfast at the hotel (subject to your scheduled departure time), transfer to the airport to catch your flight back to the UK, where your trip ends.
