Day 1 - 4: UK - Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
After flying from the UK and getting your bearings, you’ll be thrown into the deep end with three amazing days to explore the wonders of Ho Chi Minh (formerly known as Saigon). From your central location, discover colonial landmarks like the 19th-century Central Post Office and the awe-inspiring Notre-Dame Cathedral that's made entirely of materials imported from France. Delve into the country’s fascinating history, influences of which can be seen in the tantalising local food around every corner. Talking of incredible culinary experiences, this offer includes a private street food walking tour in the evening, where you’ll be able to sample the most authentic tastes of this remarkable country.
Day 5: Mỹ Tho, Vietnam
On your fifth day you’ll transfer to Mỹ Tho, the gateway to the mighty Mekong Delta. Famous for its famous floating markets, flotilla boats and local islands, when you arrive at Mỹ Tho you’ll board your home for the next week – the luxurious AmaDara cruise ship. Familiarise yourself with your new digs before setting sail to Cái Bè and tucking into a welcome dinner.
Day 6: Cai Be - Sa Dec, Vietnam
Your first stop along the Mekong is the river-land town of Cái Bè. The locals (mostly fruit farmers and fishermen) dedicate their mornings to commerce and hard work in the markets before shutting up shop and enjoying easy afternoons. You’ll be able to visit candy and rice paper making workshops, as well as Kiet Old House, before hopping back onboard and continuing along the vast waterway on to Sa Dec where colourful markets, the Cao Dai Temple and the house of Mr Huynh Thuy Le all await you.
Day 7: Tan Chau, Vietnam - Cambodia
Moving on to the very north of Vietnam, your next stop is Tân Châu, an authentic town that's famous for its silk production and is, as of yet, unspoiled by tourism. You’ll be able to see this town in a thrilling and traditional fashion abroad a xe-loi ‘trishaw’, before attending a silk making and rattan mat workshops. Afterwards the ship will continue up the river to the Cambodian border, where you’ll bid farewell to Vietnam.
Day 8 - 9: Phnom Penh, Cambodia
You have two days full of great excursions in Cambodia’s vibrant capital city – Phnom Penh. On your first morning you have the choice of learning more about Cambodia's history and pay tribute to the victims of the Khmer Rouge regime during 1975 - 1979, with a sombre visit to Cambodia’s Killing Fields and Genocide Museum. If you’d prefer something more light hearted, then striking the best deals for a whole host of treasures at the city’s Central Market will be more your bag. After an afternoon taking in some of the city’s top sites, it's back on board for dinner and your next destination.
Day 10: Koh Oknha Tey Village (Silk Island), Cambodia
You'll set sail in the morning for Koh Oknha Tey Village, known as the Silk Island due to the art of silk weaving that’s been preserved in the area for centuries. In this village you’ll visit a local school where you’ll observe the teaching of this art in action. Afterwards it’s back to the ship and onwards to Angkor Ban.
Day 11: Angkor Ban, Cambodia
Your final day aboard the AmaDara sees you dock at Angkor Ban (one of the few Cambodian villages not destroyed under the Khmer Rouge regime) and embarking on a walking tour where you’ll see traditional wooded abodes, banana plantations and the general hive of activity from local farmers. Following this, it’s back to the boat and on to Kampong Cham. Your afternoon will be spent on an epic excursion to the Twin Mountains, known as Phnom Pros and Phnom Srei. Your last night revolves around a festive farewell dinner.
Day 12 - 14: Kampong Cham - Siem Reap, Cambodia
Your final few days will be spent in the thick of the remarkable Siem Reap, which is perhaps most famed as being the gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the former capital of the Khmer empire. At Angkor Wat you can find iconic temples built in the 12th century that look as if they're straight from an Indiana Jones set. Beyond the site seeing, this is a just a beautiful and tranquil place where you can happily lounge by a pool and indulge yourself on the exquisitely fresh cuisine.
On day 15, it's time to bid adieu to the wonders of this corner of Asia, and head for your flight home.
