Discover the breathtaking Scottish Highlands on an 8-day cruise with a photography masterclass with Monty Halls, scenic excursions and full board
Day 1: Inverness
After boarding the Lord of the Glens cruise ship and having time to settle in, you'll enjoy a welcome reception and dinner with the renowned explorer and travel journalist, Monty Halls, who you'll be having a masterclass with later in the week.
Day 2: Culloden and Clava Cairns
Your Scottish Highlands adventure begins the next day, as you sail through the Caledonian Canal, the impressive 19th century waterway that connects the four lochs across the Great Glen, before you go onwards to Fort Augustus. On the way, enjoy an excursion to Culloden accompanied by Monty Halls, where you'll learn more about this infamous battlefield and its history, and encounter the ancient standing stones of Clava Cairns. Afterwards, keep your eyes peeled as you journey on through Loch Ness, where you'll pass the magnificent ruins of Urquhart Castle.
Day 3: Caledonian Canal
You'll continue through the Canal the following day, passing through Loch Oich and the tree-lined Laggan Avenue, before encountering more picturesque scenes from Loch Lochy to Banavie, with the dramatic sight of Ben Nevis looming in the backdrop. It's worth heading to the decks to watch as you pass through the incredible eight interconnected locks of Neptune's Staircase. More enchanting sights are in store in the afternoon, when you'll board a train to travel along part of the West Highland Railway and over the Glenfinnan viaduct, made famous after its cameo in the Harry Potter movies.
Day 4: Loch Linnhe and Oban
Today takes you to Oban, the heart of the Highlands' seafood industry. As well as plenty of local catches, you can savour the beatific views across the water as you pass through Loch Linnhe. After arriving in Oban, enjoy a guided walk to the imposing sight of McCaig's Tower - inspired by Rome's Colosseum, the monument stands on Battery Hill, looking over the landscape and the islands beyond.
Day 5: Mull and Tobermory
More history is in store today as you'll be visiting the final resting place of Scotland's kings on the Isle of Iona. Home to one of Scotland’s most sacred sites, Iona Abbey, the island has been the burial site for dozens of Scottish rulers over the centuries. Your next stop brings a change of pace as you head to Tobermory, where brightly coloured houses line the waterfront, giving the island a picture-postcard look.
Day 6: Eigg
Discover the natural wonders and wildlife of the Highlands today as you sail to the Isle of Eigg today. The island is a community-owned nature reserve, home to a diverse landscape from wildflowers to scrub, coast land and woods. Look out for the variety of wildlife on land, sky and sea, including dolphins and seals, as well as birds of prey soaring above. You'll be docking overnight at Inverie on Loch Nevis, where you can enjoy a cosy drink at the most remote pub in the country.
Day 7: Armadale, Skye
Today you'll be travelling across the photogenic Sound of Sleat to Armadale on the Isle of Skye for another historic insight into Scotland's past, as you trace the heritage and legacy of the Clan MacDonald, one of the largest Scottish clans. As evening descends, you'll explore one of the Highlands' most well-known sights, Eilean Donan Castle, a romantic and iconic monument in Kyle of Lochalsh.
Day 8: Kyle of Lochalsh
On day 8, it's time to start the journey back home. You'll disembark in Kyle of Lochalsh, before you take your transfer back to Inverness.
