A charming book-themed hotel close to Leipzig's historic centre - includes breakfast, a welcome drink and more

  • Calling all bookworms:Located on a quiet street moments from Leipzig's beautiful historic centre, this quirky book-shaped hotel is the perfect base for literature lovers looking to explore the city. With a bookcase-themed exterior and literary touches throughout, Book Hotel Leipzig is a celebration of all things literary, while bright, contemporary guest rooms feature all the mod cons you need to hunker down in style.

  • A bite and a book:Fuel up before heading out at the extensive breakfast buffet, where a selection of cold cuts, sweet treats and more await. Later on, the large shared lounge is great for resting your feet after pounding the pavements, with classics old and new lining the shelves at every turn. For mid-morning pick-me-ups and caffeine-infused creativity, the coffee station is on-hand for hot drinks and vending machine snacks.

  • Literary launchpad:Starting with the 13th-century minstrel Heinrich von Morungen, Leipzig's star-studded literary history has attracted writers, poets and literature enthusiasts across the ages. Poetry stalwarts Goethe and Schiller both wrote here, and there's no better way to discover the city's literary roots than with a themed walking tour of the city. Come October, the annual Leipzig Literary Autumn festival is the place to be for a packed agenda of live readings, discussion panels and theatrical performances.

Leipzig

A trade hub since the times of the Roman Empire, the lovely city of Leipzig has plenty to rival its larger city counterparts. Today, it wears its centuries-old history alongside a distinctly artsy air, boasting a great music scene alongside its strong literary tradition. A casual 10-minute stroll into Leipzig's historic centre will take you past Renaissance architecture, Baroque trading houses and ornate merchant residences, while imposing churches like the Thomaskirche and Nikolaikirche preside over the city's main squares.

You'll find relics of Leipzig's musical past at every turn - Bach worked in the city for several years, alongside Wagner, Mendelssohn and Mahler. Your hotel is just around the corner from Mendelssohn-Haus, while the Bach-Museum is a breezy 12-minute walk away. Elsewhere, cross the city centre to reach Leipzig's famous zoo, or head to the Clara-Zetkin Park and Leipzig Forest to sample two of the city's finest green spaces.
