Milaan
Lively and sprawling, Milan offers a more trendy, metropolitan vibe than the likes of Florence and Venice, whilst still boasting an impressive list of famous and historic sights. As Italy’s fashion epicentre, expect to see stylish locals walking its streets, sipping espressos and popping into glitzy boutiques. Join their ranks with a trip to the iconic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - it houses all the top luxury brands and makes for fun window shopping under its spectacular vaulted-glass dome. Just across the piazza you’ll see the incredible Duomo; admire from outside with a gelato in hand, or make the climb up to its spired rooftop for views across the city.
Another Milan must-see is the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, home to Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece, The Last Supper. If you plan on making a stop here, be sure to book as tickets sell out far in advance. If you miss the boat, never fear! The Pinacoteca di Brera houses an impressive art collection for you to explore instead. If you’re looking for a more unique experience in Milan, why not head to Cimitero Monumentale? This vast cemetery is filled with beautiful statues and grand monuments, and makes for thoughtful strolling. If it’s opulence and drama you want, a night at the Teatro alla Scala, the city’s regal opera house, is sure to be an unforgettable experience.
