Take in the cultural hotspots and spellbinding nature of Argentina and Brazil, with a choice of hotels, breakfast, all travel and excursions
Day 1: UK/Ireland - Buenos Aires, Argentina
Head to your chosen airport ready for an overnight flight to Buenos Aires.
Days 2-4: Buenos Aires
Today you'll touch down in the Argentinian capital, a vast, bustling city brimming with culture, character, and dazzling colonial architecture. After settling in at your hotel, you’ll have the rest of the day to spend as you wish, perhaps sampling the city’s atmospheric tango clubs, excellent restaurants and bustling shopping streets.
On day three, you’ll embark on a guided tour of Buenos Aires, ticking off city landmarks like the grand Plaza de Mayo, the picturesque La Boca district, and the iconic Obelisk and Casa Rosada government office, where Madonna performed her 1996 hit Don’t Cry for Me Argentina. Your whistlestop tour ends in the glamorous neighbourhood of Palermo, the perfect place to spend the evening at your leisure sampling the city’s cosmopolitan delights. The following day is yours to spend you wish - be sure to sample local culinary specialties like empanadas, asado and dulce de leche.
Day 5: Buenos Aires - Iguazu
After breakfast, say goodbye to Buenos Aires as you transfer to the airport for your flight to Iguazu. Once you’ve settled into your hotel, you’ll have the rest of the day to spend at leisure, preparing for tomorrow’s adventures or getting a head start with a scenic bike ride through the jungle.
Days 6-7: Iguazu
Leave city life behind for a few days and reconnect with nature at the awe-inspiring Iguazu Falls. Home to over 230 cascading waterfalls, Iguazu is one of the mightiest waterfalls in the world, much taller than Niagara Falls and twice as wide. In the next two days, you’ll visit both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides of the waterfall, taking a train to the ‘Devil’s Throat’ lookout area to watch as water rushes down a jaw-dropping 80-metre drop. Looking to up the thrill factor? Substitute this excursion for the optional Iguazú Great Adventure, an enchanting tour where you’ll be hiking through the Yacaratiá jungle, sailing into the Lower Iguazú River, and coming face-to-face with the San Martín waterfall, the largest waterfall system in the world.
Please note that the Great Adventure excursion is not suitable for guests with heart problems or physical disabilities.
Day 8: Iguazu - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
After breakfast, return to the airport for your flight to Rio de Janeiro, the first stop on the Brazilian leg of your trip. Upon arrival, you’ll have the rest of the day to spend as you wish - why not start with a chilled-out stroll along Rio’s world-famous beaches, Copacabana and Ipanema?
Days 9-10: Rio de Janeiro
This morning, you’ll set off to Tijuca National Park for a half-day visit to Christ the Redeemer, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Take bucket-list snaps of this iconic statue, whose magnificent lookout point also affords breathtaking views of the city and beach beyond. On your way back to the city, you’ll pass by the Sambódromo, home of the legendary Rio Carnival. The rest of the day is yours to spend as you wish, perhaps ticking off city highlights like the Selaron Steps, the beautiful Parque Lage, and the ornate Abbey of Our Lady of Montserrat monastery, a striking and otherworldly example of 16th-century Mannerist architecture.
On day 10, see the sights at your own pace or opt for an excursion to the fabled Sugarloaf Mountain. You’ll start with a panoramic tour of downtown Rio and stop by the imposing Metropolitan Cathedral, before riding up a scenic cable car to Morro da Urca and Sugarloaf Mountain for unforgettable views across Guanabara Bay and the beaches of Niteroi.
Day 11: Rio de Janeiro - Buzios
Bid farewell to Rio as you transfer to your hotel in Buzios for all-out beach bliss - this stunning resort on the peninsula is nicknamed ‘the St. Tropez of Brazil,’ and was the preferred haunt of 1960s film legend Brigitte Bardot. Enjoy endless walks down pristine sandy beaches, and make the most of the area’s many upscale restaurants, bars and boutiques.
Days 12-13: Buzios
Today, you'll discover the paradisiacal coastline of Buzios on an exciting panoramic Escuna Cruise, taking in the most beautiful beaches on the peninsula from aboard an atmospheric traditional boat. Stop for refreshing dips in the crystal-clear waters of Azeda, Azedinha and João Fernandes, and marvel at the otherworldly beauty of uninhabited islands like Caboclo, Branca and Feia. Savour the cheerful onboard atmosphere over traditional Brazilian music, before returning to shore and spending the rest of the day at your leisure. Please note that there is no guide on the Escuna Cruise.
You'll have your final day to spend as you wish, perhaps exploring different beaches, making a splash with thrilling water sports, or tucking into mouthwatering local cuisine.
Day 14: Buzios - UK/Ireland
After relaxing in Buzios from your whirlwind South American adventures, it’s time to transfer to the airport for an overnight flight back home.
