The following optional excursions can be booked in the final booking process.
• Day 2: Half-day 'Lima like a local' tour (private)
Get the authentic Limeño experience with an immersive private tour of the city, starting with a visit to a local market to sample traditional fruits. Next, you’ll hop on a bus to Downtown Lima to see the beautiful colonial buildings of the city’s historic centre, the seat of colonial and Republican governments since the Spanish took over this former indigenous urban centre in 1535. After a culture-soaked tour of Lima’s highlights, you’ll enjoy a Pisco Sour tasting at Cordano Bar, one of the country’s oldest bars that has played host to presidents, artists, writers and many more.
• Day 3: La Caravedo Distillery visit
Discover the oldest distillery in the Americas with this hour-long excursion to La Caravedo, which dates back to 1684 and lies nestled in the enchanting Ica Valley. Marvel at the intricate process and centuries-old techniques used to produce the finest artisanal spirits, and learn about the seven varieties of Pisco before sampling some of the distillery’s famous Pisco Portón for yourself.
• Days 7-8: Colca Canyon and Puno tour (with overnight stay)
Watch Arequipa and its imposing volcanoes fade into the distance as you embark on a scenic drive to 12,000 feet above sea level. On your way to the Colca Canyon, keep an eye out for traditional villages and their colourfully-dressed residents, and be sure to sip a coca-leaf tea to fight any altitude sickness. Take in placid lakes, soaring birds and grazing llamas, alpacas and vicuñas in the beautiful Altiplano, before continuing on to Coporaque for more spellbinding panoramas and an optional one-hour walk through the surroundings. The last thing on today’s agenda is a relaxing bath in the hot springs, the perfect way to soothe weary limbs.
After an overnight stay, you’ll depart the following morning for the famous lookout point at Cruz del Condor, located high on a cliff at the deepest point of the canyon. Keep an eye out for majestic Andean condors slicing through the sky, before hitting the road again for Puno and Lake Titicaca, stopping in traditional villages as you traverse the magical highland plains.
• Day 14: Full-day Cusipata Rainbow Mountain and Red Valley excursion
The early start will be worth it this morning as you drive south towards Puno, stopping to enjoy spellbinding views of the natural scenery at Cusipata. You’ll head onwards to Phullawasipata at a staggering 4,626 metres above sea level, where you’ll fuel up with a packed breakfast before beginning the awe-inspiring trek towards Rainbow Mountain. After around two hours of hiking, you’ll reach the mountain’s magnificent lookout point, the perfect spot for once-in-a-lifetime snaps. You’ll then move on to catch breathtaking views of the Red Valley, before beginning your descent back to Phullawasipata where you’ll be transferred to a local restaurant for some well-deserved lunch.
• Day 15: Half-day Cusco city tour with surrounding ruins
Get up close to some of the world’s most famous ruins with a comprehensive tour of this ancient Incan city. You’ll start in the main square at the impressive Colonial Cathedral, before diving into all-things-Inca with a visit to the Temple of the Sun, the Royal House of the Sun, the Qenqo Amphitheatre and Tambomachay, a lavish sanctuary built exclusively for Incan royalty.
