Turiano
Just a hop from the beach, you’ll be staying in the rural town of Ricardi in the region of Calabria – the "toe" of Italy's boot lapped by the Ionian and Tyrrhenian Seas. Must-dos include visiting the towns of Stilo and Reggio Calabria for the Byzantine-style basilica and archaeological museum respectively, and also spending time at the area’s three national parks (Pollino, Sila, Aspromonte), all of which are filled with black bears, wild boar, rare birds, and a superb array of flora. You’ll also be within easy reach of Tropea – the buzzy seaside resort that’s a big hit with Italian holidaymakers for its charming white-sand beaches, chic outdoor bars and cafes, and picturesque hilltop medieval old town.
