Lynmouth
Devon might just be one of the prettiest parts of the country, and what better way to explore it than lacing up your hiking boots and hitting the trails? The South West Coast Path - the UK’s longest National Path - passes by just moments from the hotel, so you can easily hop onto this 630-mile trail and see how far along the coast you can get. The walk from Lynmouth to Combe Martin is a challenging 13-mile walk that rewards a decent amount of ascent - including the summit of Great Hangman, the highest point on the South West Coast Path - with spectacular cliffside coastal scenery. If gentle strolling is more your thing, you can drive to Combe Martin for potters along the sand with an ice cream in hand, or make the slightly longer drive to award-winning Woolacombe Beach for three miles of golden sands to saunter on. Also on your doorstep is Exmoor National Park, with its own selection of beautiful walks. You could also try out mountain biking or even horse-riding!
Even closer to the hotel, don’t forget to explore the pretty village of Lynmouth itself. Wander along the harbour, indulge in some retail therapy in the cute seaside shops, and ride the cliff railway up to the twin town of Lynton; opened in 1890, this funicular railway is the highest and the steepest railway in the world to be completely powered by water.
