Elephants on your doorstep: Just a stone’s throw from an ancient watering hole, Last Word Madikwe brings you up close with some of nature’s most magnificent creatures. Don’t be surprised if one of the colourful species of bird joins you at breakfast, or a herd of zebras wander past just metres away as you sip a drink in the garden. You can get even closer (and snap some incredible pictures!) from the photography hide right by the watering hole, or head out on one of the two daily game drives to spy elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos and more.

Lodge luxury: The animals aren’t the only draw here - the hotel itself is pretty stunning too. When you’re not out on a game drive, you can spend some time in the gorgeous shared spaces, which combine cosy safari-lodge style with African design elements. There’s also a gym for you to enjoy, and a small outdoor swimming pool with excellent views of the watering hole. When you get peckish, you’ll find plenty of fine-dining flavours on offer, and a covered terrace area where you can eat outside whilst watching the animals.

Rest on the reserve: The six suites are all appointed luxuriously in a classic safari style - think dark woods, rich jewel tones and animal prints. You can also expect a separate shower and bathtub, a private patio, and plenty of space to relax and unwind after a thrilling day on the reserve.
How to get there
The hotel is located on the Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa. The closest airport is Sir Seretse Khama International Airport in Gaborone, Botswana, an hour’s drive away (please note that some rental companies do not allow border crossings). Alternatively, O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg is a four to five-hour drive away.
Entry requirements
The passport, visa and health requirements at the time of booking can be viewed on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for UK citizens, and on the Department of Foreign Affairs website for IE citizens. It is your responsibility to ensure that you and all members of your party are in possession of all necessary travel and health documents, and in compliance with any other immigration/entry requirements before you travel, including whether your passport must be machine readable or which visas/waivers may be required for entry, such as ESTA for USA travel and/or ETIAS for EU travel. Please also be sure to check the validity of your passport and allow up to 10 weeks for passport renewals.
