The traditional mountain inn has been sympathetically expanded into a small, personal hotel, incorporating old barns, building directly into the hillside and blending beautifully with the surrounding nature.

For more active rest, the hotel can hire out bikes, backpacks and walking poles, and the staff can advise on the best routes to take.
How to get there
Bolzano Airport is about 35 minutes’ drive away from Hotel Gfell, with Verona (two hours) and Innsbruck over the border in Austria (also two hours) offering alternative flights. The hotel is remotely located so a car is recommended, and there is ample parking available.
Entry requirements
The passport, visa and health requirements at the time of booking can be viewed on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for UK citizens, and on the Department of Foreign Affairs website for IE citizens. It is your responsibility to ensure that you and all members of your party are in possession of all necessary travel and health documents, and in compliance with any other immigration/entry requirements before you travel, including whether your passport must be machine readable or which visas/waivers may be required for entry, such as ESTA for USA travel and/or ETIAS for EU travel. Please also be sure to check the validity of your passport and allow up to 10 weeks for passport renewals.
Province of Bolzano - South Tyrol
This corner of the Dolomites is unspoilt and less frequently explored than the area’s big hitters, like Tre Cime di Lavaredo or Sassolungo, but the trails and views are no less spectacular. The Schlern (or Sciliar, in Italian) are a stunning range of mountains with endless footpaths that navigated dense, sun-dapped forests, breathtaking peaks and rolling meadows, which chime with the gentle ringing of cow bells. Popular routes include the Rosengarten Traverse, through a lunar-like protected park, and Bärenfalle, which navigates steep-sided ravines through ancient, jagged rock. The routes are dotted with mountain huts and refuges, where you can refuel. It’s beautiful any time of the year: from the blazing blue skies of summer, to the quiet days of autumn when the leaves fall, and the white-blanketed beauty of winter and spring, when the area becomes a skier’s paradise.
