How to get thereThe hotel sits on the tranquil shores of Lake Maggiore, in an unspoilt corner that’s quieter than other towns around the lake. From Laveno port it’s just a 15-minute ferry crossing to Intra, from which a variety of connecting ferry services make for the Borromean Islands and Stresa. Lugano airport is 35 kilometres away, while Milan airport is 40 kilometres to the south.

Spanning both Italy and Switzerland, Lake Maggiore is one of the largest lakes in the Alps – a shimmering, inky blue slicing through the regions of Lombardy, Piedmont and Swiss Ticino. Small villages and sleepy towns are scattered around the lakeshore, where soothing waters lap up against dense stone walls and hydrangea-filled gardens. Water taxis help you to avoid the crowded roads of peak summer, and the Mottarone cable car offers a pleasant diversion with bird’s-eye views of Maggiore and its six neighbouring lakes, the Po Valley and the surrounding mountains.
