Day 1: UK/Ireland departure
Begin your adventure by arriving at your departure airport, prepped and ready to board your overnight flight to Delhi.
Day 2: Delhi
Touch down in Delhi and make your way to your first stylish hotel for a smooth and easy check-in. A city built upon a labyrinth of cosmopolitan hubs, historic forts, stunning temples, and bustling markets, not to mention India’s capital, New Delhi, you’ll have plenty to explore at your first thrilling stop. But first, take some time to recharge following your long-haul flight, perhaps savouring delicious flavours whilst enjoying your first local meal. Then, hit the lively streets and discover all that this buzzing metropolis has to offer, before bedding down and getting some well-deserved beauty sleep in preparation for your next exciting day.
Day 3: Delhi - Mandawa
Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at the hotel, and then set off to your next stunning destination - Mandawa - journeying through authentic villages and lush rural landscapes as you go. Once you arrive, you’ll head off on an insightful walking tour that’ll take you through the city streets, adorned with timeless architecture, fabulous fortresses, and elaborate archways that are sure to captivate. The real gem will be the town’s wealth of marvellous havelis: famed for their intricate frescoes depicting illustrations of British colonial rule.
Day 4: Mandawa - Bikaner
Today, following a revitalising breakfast, you’ll be travelling through arid lands to the cultural treasure trove of Bikaner: a jewel of the desert known for its rich heritage, architecture, and the majestic camels that roam the land. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the stunning Junagarh Fort, a 16th-century complex brimming with opulent palaces, temples, and intricately-designed interiors. Complete the day in style with a fun-filled tuk-tuk ride from the ancient city bazaar, before settling down in your sleek abode for the night.
Day 5 & 6: Bikaner - Jaisalmer
Another day brings another thrilling desert destination. Of course, a delicious breakfast will be the first thing on the agenda, followed by an Arabian Nights-esque journey through the rocky sands of the Thar Desert to reach the city of Jaisalmer. The afternoon will be completely yours, so look forward to getting brilliantly lost within a maze of winding alleyways and twisting streets at your own blissful pace.
The next day will see you discovering Jaisalmer in all its golden-hued beauty. You’ll enjoy a fascinating tour of the city, discovering captivating sights, such as the dazzling Gadisar Lake and the marvellous Golden Fort: a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the world’s largest inhabited forts. In the afternoon, embark on a delightful excursion to the nearby Sam Sand Dunes and watch golden hills become illuminated by a serene sunset sky. Then, shake off honeyed grains and get some rest before your next sun-kissed day.
Day 7: Jaisalmer - Jodhpur
Set yourself up for the day with an energising breakfast and then head towards Jodhpur, known as The Blue City for its Old Town’s vivid blue-washed buildings set beneath the impressive Mehrangarh Fort. After exploring the fort in all its panoramic glory, you’ll continue on to Jaswant Thada, a magnificent marble cenotaph and a sight for architecturally-sore eyes. After immersing yourself in the fascinating heritage of Rajasthan’s second-largest city, return to your hotel for some well-deserved R&R.
Day 8: Jodhpur - Jaipur
Today, you'll be travelling from one coloured city to another, as day eight will see you transferring to India’s Pink City: Jaipur. While some buildings were already pink, this city was largely painted pink in 1876 to welcome the Prince of Wales, transforming it into the rose-hued hub of history and culture that it is today. You’ll have the day to yourself; wander through bustling markets and sample delicious local flavours. Tomorrow, you’ll have an excursion-packed day.
Day 9: Jaipur
After breakfast, make your way by jeep to the Amber Fort, stopping en-route for a quick photo op outside Jaipur’s iconic red and pink sandstone palace: Hawa Mahal. After arriving inside the Amber Fort, a UNESCO-recognised site with a long and fascinating history, visit the Hall of Victory where intricate-panelled walls and mirrored ceilings await.
You’ll learn plenty more about rosy Jaipur in the afternoon, after taking a tour around the city’s top sights, from Maharaja’s City Palace to the largest stone and marble crafted observatory in the world, The Jantar Mantar. Then, you’ll have the evening to rest in preparation for tomorrow’s extra-exciting activity.
Day 10: Jaipur - Fathepur Sikri - Agra
The fun-filled exploration continues on day 10 - perhaps the best day yet. Enjoy breakfast and then travel towards Agra, stopping at the 16th-century abandoned site of Fatehpur Sikri on your way. Then, embark on a bucket-list tour of one of The Seven Modern Wonders of the World: the Taj Mahal. A breathtaking symbol of eternal love and a masterpiece of Mughal architecture, this is a sight that you’re not likely to forget.
Day 11: Agra - Delhi
With the white-marble allure of the Taj Mahal still fresh on your mind, make your way back to the modern metropolis of Delhi. Upon arrival, pay your respects at the site of Mahatma Gandhi’s cremation - the Raj Ghat - before heading to the famous landmark of the India Gate. Next up, will be the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Humayun’s Tomb - a stirking architectural sight that’s seen as a precurser to the Taj Mahal’s iconic design.
Day 12: Delhi
Indulge in a relaxing breakfast in the hotel before enjoying your last full day in Delhi at your own relaxing pace, perhaps stocking up on souvenirs at the chaotic maze-like markets of Chandni Chowk, or exploring the peaceful grounds of Lodhi Gardens. If you’ve still got some sightseeing spirit left in you, opt to spend your last day on an optional tour around Delhi’s stunning temples. Check the Lotus Temple, Jama Mosque, the downtown Sikh Temple, and the Lakshmi Narayan Temple off your India bucket list, completing your once-in-a-lifetime-trip with no sightseeing regrets.
Day 13: Delhi - UK/Ireland
After enjoying your last breakfast and making memories that’ll last a lifetime, say goodbye to India and head to the airport for your flight back to the UK.
