Day 1-2: UK - Porto
Touch down at the airport and prepare to pick up your hire car as you drive to the beautiful Portuguese city of Porto. A coastal gem known for its, you guessed it, Port wine, the region is brimming with history and culture. Settle into your hotel before spending the next few days uncovering the city’s architectural wonders, from the iconic Dom Luís I Bridge to the colourful Ribeira district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the maze of narrow alleyways, let your eyes roam the intricate azulejo tiled buildings, and seek out the palatial nineteenth-century Palácio de Bolsa. Don’t miss out on the chance to indulge in the city's culinary delights, savouring fresh seafood at a merchants-house-turned-café, or sipping glasses of port in a cosy wine cellar. As the sun sets, watch the light reflect and glitter atop the snaking Douro River.

Day 3-4: Porto - Douro Valley
Switch out city thrills for a slice of authentic rural living as you hit the road for the undulating hills and serene natural beauty of the Douro Valley. During your time here, you'll have the freedom to explore this picturesque region at your own leisure. Wind your way through the terraced vineyards that cling to the steep hillsides, hop in the car and travel to charming villages like Pinhão or Provesende, where time seems to stand still, learn about the centuries-old traditions of wine production, or simply soak up the tranquillity of rural life. There’s also plenty of hiking trails that lead to breathtaking viewpoints, offering panoramic vistas of the valley's beauty.
If you select the six-night stay, you can expect to spend an extra night in the Douro Valley.
Day 5: Douro Valley - UK
The next day, pack your bags and say goodbye to the Douro Valley as you head back towards Porto Airport to drop off your hire car. Board your plane home having successfully savoured the flavours of the region.
Port and Douro wine walking tour with tastings
During your time in Porto, you'll have the opportunity to get to know the city on an included Port and Douro wine walking tour. This guided experience will take you to three different wine houses, where you'll enjoy tastings of up to 10 Port and Douro wines. Learn to distinguish between different varieties and discover the nuances of their flavours in a selection of atmospheric cellars. You'll also have the chance to sample local honey and olive oil before you leave with personalised wine recommendations to enhance the rest of your trip.
