Discover vibrant Kos

Nothing slows you down quite like an island escape. Set that getaway on the Greek Island of Kos and you've got a no-brainer of a holiday. The third largest of the Dodecanese islands, Kos is fringed with sandy beaches and peppered with historical sights. From impressive castles to natural hot springs, there's plenty to discover here, all against the backdrop of Greece's lively evening vibe. Kos packs a hefty historical punch too, being the birthplace of Hippocrates (the father of modern medicine) and home to Apollo's Temple. Its healing heritage even attracted the likes of Cleopatra in her day.

Excursions

Included excursions

Day 3: Three-island cruise tour

Explore three beautiful islands on a magical boat trip. Board your wooden vessel and set sail for Vathi on Kalymnos. Here, a natural “fjord” twinkles with emerald waters and traditional tavernas line the shore. Take a refreshing dive off the pier into the crystalline sea, then board the boat again for the journey to your next stop: the islet of Plati. On this short stop you’ll have time to swim in the waters around the boat and paddle to the uninhabited island, where you can comb the shores for pretty shells. On the third stop, Pserimos, you can walk from the port to the beach and wander between local stalls selling sponges, spices and other souvenirs. Sip a Greek coffee by the sea or walk to the idyllic island church and beautiful viewpoint. Take one last swim, and return to Kos. Keep your eyes peeled - you might even see some dolphins!

Optional excursions

Day trip to Bodrum, Turkey

Tick another country off your list and make the easy 30-minute journey from the port of Kos to Bodrum, Turkey. After passing through customs, you’ll be free to explore the city as you wish.

Known in ancient times as Halicarnassus, Bodrum was one of the most important cities of antiquity and remained an important sea port for centuries. Dive into the city’s impressive history with visits to the castle, the stunning Ancient Greek theatre, the Museum of Underwater Antiquities and the ruins of the Mausoleum of Halicanassus, one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World.

History not your thing? Wander the narrow streets and sample local cuisine: try a Turkish coffee, enjoy an authentic kebab or treat yourself to some kazandibi, one of the most popular Turkish treats. Don’t miss the sprawling bazaar, where endless stalls offer everything from souvenirs, folk art and crafts to clothing, tea and spices.

Nisyros Volcano Island excursion

Only one hour from the port of Kardameina, Nisyros is a unique getaway. Although it belongs to the Dodecanese, Nisyros resembles the Cyclades with its whitewashed beauty, and ancient eruptions of the sleeping-yet active volcano have created a lunar-like landscape across the island.

Discovering the Stefanos Crater, one of the biggest hydrothermal craters in the world at 300 metres in diameter, will be an unforgettable experience for adventure seekers. Then head to Mandraki, the capital of the island, where you can stroll the narrow streets and take some photos between the picturesque, white Nisyrian houses, colourful doors, flowers and cobbled streets. A short walk will take you to the highest spot of Mandraki, the Monastery of Panagia Spiliani, where you can enjoy the panoramic view.
