Your journey begins in picturesque Cilento, a region south of Salerno known for its unspoiled nature and charming coastal villages. Hop in your hire car and venture along the rugged coast, which winds its way through green hills and crystal-clear bays. In the historic town of Paestum, one of the best-preserved ancient Greek temple districts in Italy awaits you. Continue to Sorrento, where you'll be welcomed with breathtaking views of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius. The Amalfi Coast, world-famous for its steeply sloping cliffs and picturesque villages such as Positano and Ravello, is the highlight of your drive along the coast. The winding streets offer spectacular views, culinary delights and pretty villages adorned with ornate architecture.
After leaving the mainland behind, you'll continue your journey to Sicily via ferry. Palermo, the lively capital, seduces with its unique mix of Arabic, Norman and Baroque architecture. Further east in Sicily, you'll discover Taormina, where you'll find stunning views of Mount Etna and the sea from the top of the ancient theatre ruins.
