Day 1: UK - Oslo

Today you’re touching down in the surprisingly cosmopolitan capital of Norway - welcome to Oslo! Make your way to your first hotel and settle in, then head out to begin your explorations. You’ll have the rest of the day to discover Oslo’s striking waterfront and stunning attractions - start with one of the many museums and art galleries, a sojourn amidst the cool cafés and boutiques of the trendy Grünerløkka neighbourhood or a soothing session in one of the unique fjordside saunas.

Day 2-3: Tromsø

Wake up in Oslo and squeeze in any sightseeing you can - maybe a visit to the medieval Akershus Fortress or the strikingly-modern Oslo Opera House. Then you’ll be boarding your flight to Tromsø and stepping off the plane into the Arctic Circle!

Spend the rest of the day discovering Tromsø - the third-largest city north of the Arctic Circle. There’s plenty to see in this picturesque outpost - including museums, markets and impressive architecture both old and modern. Feast on seafood fresh from the fjords and catch the Fjellheisen cable car up Storsteinen for spectacular views of the rugged, snow-capped peaks, then head to your hotel for a restorative night’s sleep.

The next day brings the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of the Arctic with a range of amazing optional excursions. Choose to set out on a captivating Northern Lights safari, swim in crystal-clear waters on a guided tour around the island of Sommarøy or explore a local fishing village and cruise the stunning fjord as you marvel at local wildlife. All of these incredible experiences are sure to leave you with wonderful memories and a camera roll full of incredible sights.

Day 4-5: Arctic cruise

Today you’ll be embarking on your once-in-a-lifetime cruise. Spend another day exploring, shopping and feasting in Tromsø - don’t miss the Arctic Cathedral with its beautiful stained glass or a wander along the harbour past the colourful warehouses - then board your cruiser in the early evening. As you follow the coastline north you’ll pass the majestic Lyngen Alps; marvel at the white-dusted mountains that seem to soar out of the icy water.

After a night onboard, the early hours see you docking briefly in the historic fishing towns of Hammerfest and remote Havøysund - look out for reindeer in summer - before arriving in Honningsvåg around 11am. Here you’ll be able to join an optional bus excursion to the North Cape, the northernmost point on continental Europe. Venture on to Kjøllefjord village in the Sámi heartlands; look out for the Finnkirka, a rock formation used as an ancient sacrificial site by the indigenous Sámi, and opt to join a summer excursion to meet local Sámi, learn about their life reindeer herding and listen to folk songs.

As the evening draws on, you’ll reach your northernmost port of call, Mehamn, then set off for Berlevåg, passing the Slettnes Lighthouse - the northernmost mainland lighthouse on Earth - along the way.

Day 6: Kirkenes

Wake up onboard; this morning you’ll cruise through Vadsø, an area known for its spectacular birdwatching (look out for sea eagles). Around 9am you’ll be pulling into Kirkenes; this close to the border you can officially say that you’ve travelled further east than St Petersburg or Istanbul. Disembark your magical cruise and get ready to explore the town.

Known as the capital of the Barents, Kirkenes has plenty to offer; hike through stunning national park and ancient forestland, feast on local king crab straight from the Barents Sea and discover echoes of the town’s wartime history. Don’t forget that summertime brings the magical, endless daylight of the Midnight Sun, whilst the twinkling Polar Night rules from November to January.

Day 7-8: Oslo

Hop your flight back to Oslo today, and make the most of one more day in Norway’s capital! You could get your art fix at the MUNCH Museum or National Museum (both of which house versions of Edvard Munch’s iconic The Scream), or find the world’s oldest ski collection and panoramic views at Holmenkollen Ski Museum & Tower.

After one more night in the city, you’ll be waving goodbye to wonderland and catching your flight home.
