Explore La Serenissima from a central spot near Venice’s famous Grand Canal, at an elegant townhouse tucked away down a charming street close to all the sights – includes a bottle of prosecco

  • Steps from the action: Where better to explore the ‘City of Canals’ from than a sophisticated abode mere steps from the Grand Canal – the sinuous watery thoroughfare that cuts through the floating city? Dimora Capuleti is fantastically positioned just 50 metres from the Grand Canal, tucked away within a stylish townhouse on a blissfully quiet and typically Venetian street.

  • Sleep like a Doge: Wake up in beautifully appointed suites and apartments that are adorned in frescoes, furnished with antiques and replete with historical details like exposed beams and original Venetian floors. Admire views of the narrow, winding streets, get ready for dinners out in the smart en suite bathrooms, and brew your first coffee of the day from the in-room Nespresso machine. There are plenty of cafes and panetterie where you can grab a cornetto to kick-start your day.

  • A private idyll: Dimora Capuleti is situated a few steps from its sister hotel, Hotel Sogno di Giulietta e Romeo (where breakfast is available for an extra fee). You’ll check-in here, and then head next door to your own, independent space, accessed via a private gate exclusively reserved for guests. Each of the hotel’s rooms and apartments are unique, with their own charm, so you can feel like a local Venetian – if only for a few nights.

How to get there

The hotel is approximately 14 kilometres away from Venice Marco Polo airport. It’s around a 20-minute taxi drive along the SS14 and over the bridge; alternatively, the Alilaguna (orange line) ferry transfer stops five minutes’ walk away at the San Stae stop. Alternatively, you could arrange your own water taxi in advance, to arrive in style straight from the airport.

Good to know

Please note that this is an ancient Venetian building, so there is no lift. The hotel has three floors.

Check-in for Dimora Capuleti takes place at the Sogno di Giulietta e Romeo reception; the hotel is just 50 metres away, approximately a one-minute walk.

Entry requirements

The passport, visa and health requirements at the time of booking can be viewed on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for UK citizens, and on the Department of Foreign Affairs website for IE citizens. It is your responsibility to ensure that you and all members of your party are in possession of all necessary travel and health documents, and in compliance with any other immigration/entry requirements before you travel, including whether your passport must be machine readable or which visas/waivers may be required for entry, such as ESTA for USA travel and/or ETIAS for EU travel. Please also be sure to check the validity of your passport and allow up to 10 weeks for passport renewals.

Venice

Staying in Venice, you'll enjoy a peaceful sojourn surrounded by canals, winding alleys and slowly drifting boats. A city without cars, it is dotted with art galleries and museums, as well as photogenic architectural sights at every turn. Take a must-do trip down the Grand Canal before visiting St Mark's Basilica, marvelling at the religious frescoes inside, before walking along Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs.

While here, why not spend some time in Murano visiting a glass factory? It's an ideal pace to pick up souvenirs of your secret escape. While you’re on an outing to the islands in the lagoon, stop in at Burano to snap photos of the vibrant houses, or pick up some intricate lacework – the island is famous for its lace making.

Join a bacari tour of the city’s charming wine bars (bacari) to get to know Venetian cuisine through the magic of cicchetti: these tiny morsels are a little like Italian tapas, small plates of delectable treats like arancini or dried cod, served alongside a small glass of local white wine, which Venetians refer to as an ‘ombra’ (a shadow). Save space for dinner in one of the city’s exceptional fine dining restaurants, to sample classic dishes like risotto cooked in cuttlefish ink, tiramisu or fritole – carnival doughnuts filled with cream or jam.
