Day 1 - 3: UK – Vancouver
More than just a pretty face, the mountain-rimmed city of Vancouver is an epicurean enclave with a growing crop of microbreweries and Insta-worthy neighbourhoods, from uber-cool Gastown to hipster Main Street. Flanked by snow-covered peaks, acres of national parkland and miles of rugged Pacific coastline, Vancouver is truly a one-of-a-kind city bursting at the seams with a unique mix of culture and natural beauty.
Day 4 - 5: Rocky Mountaineer Train Ride with Kamloops stopover
Departing from Vancouver in the comfort of your Rocky Mountaineer train, you'll sit back and relax to witness unrivalled panoramic views, whilst enjoying delicious gourmet dining and lovely local wines (alcoholic and soft drinks included). With on-board hosts offering tales of Canadian history throughout your journey, you'll learn all about your surroundings and hopefully spot a bear or two along the way.
After your first day on board, you'll be transferred to a cosy hotel in Kamloops. The city occupies a particularly scenic location at the meeting point of the North and South Thompson rivers. There are numerous hiking trails to enjoy, including up the clay spires which rise above Kamloops Lake, as well as a mountain biking park. In town, you'll find a plethora of museums, art galleries, bars, live music venues, breweries, restaurants and shops. The next morning, you'll be transferred to the train station and spend another idyllic day aboard the Rocky Mountaineer admiring the scenery, before arriving in Banff.
Day 6 - 8: Banff
Alight from the train in beautiful Banff: this resort town sits within the glacial lake-fringed surroundings of Banff National Park. You can really immerse yourself in nature here, and explore the untouched wilderness with outdoor adventures galore. Watch out for the wildlife – residents here include elk and grizzly bears. Banff sets a magical scene for horseback riding, or you could turn up the pace with a splash of epic white water rafting.
Day 9 - 10: Calgary
This eclectic city merges modern living with old traditions. Nicknamed "Cowtown", it comes to life each July with the Calgary Stampede. Head to Calgary Tower for brilliant vistas over the city, take in art and local history at the Glenbow Museum or visit Calgary Zoo to see its animals and interesting dinosaur displays. Cross the river over the unique Peace Bridge, and work up an appetite before hitting stylish bistros and wholesome brunch spots.
