A west-of-centre spa and leisure escape 20 minutes from Edinburgh, in a stately Victorian country house – includes breakfast, dinner credit, leisure access, and late check-out

  • Perfectly placed: Whether you’re searching for a sumptuous stopover near Edinburgh’s airport or wanting a leafy base from which to explore the Scottish capital, Norton House Hotel & Spa ticks all the boxes for an upscale stay. The Victorian country house was once owned by the family behind Glenlivet whiskey and is reached via a sweeping tree-lined driveway slicing through 55 acres of rolling countryside, a mere 20 minutes from the centre of Edinburgh.

  • The old and the new: The building dates back to 1840 and its detailed architecture is perfectly balanced by the modern additions of the well-appointed spa and leisure facilities. Stroll amongst the elaborate halls on your way to the award-winning spa, where an indoor pool promises soothing dips, saunas and steam rooms offer warming relief and spoiling treatments (fees apply) transport you to new levels of relaxation.

  • Scottish delights: Two restaurants proffer delicious diversions. Choose from the two AA Rosette-awarded brasserie for relaxed dining with a contemporary twist, or the light and airy conservatory lounge for a more laid-back meal. For special occasions, opulent afternoon teas and Sunday lunches to savour lend a special element to any stay.

How to get there

The hotel is handily located five minutes’ drive from Edinburgh airport and 20 minutes’ drive from the city centre, between the M8 and M9 motorways. Ingliston Park & Ride is about two kilometres away and has tram services every seven minutes into Edinburgh City Centre.

Edinburgh

Edinburgh is a city of contrasts. While it’s easy to catch an epic, uninterrupted view of its skyline from one of the many lookouts, the longer you spend wandering around, the sooner you’ll realize that these storied streets are full of twisting, turning alleyways you couldn’t make out from a distance – as well as centuries of secrets.

Start by soaking up the city's history at Edinburgh Castle, before venturing just beyond to the Scottish National Gallery. From here, continue on past the Scottish National Portrait Gallery to leafy New Town and Stockbridge, the charming, village-like neighbourhood that's famous for its splendid Georgian architecture, independent boutiques, cosy cafés and bevy of vintage and charity shops. Alternatively, stick around the Scott Monument and saunter past the lively shops of Princes Street, before circling back via the Royal Mile, the National Museum of Scotland, and the historic buildings of the University of Edinburgh.
