Sublime Swiss train adventure with Glacier & Bernina Express

All aboard an epic Rhaetian Railway journey from snow-capped Switzerland to northern Italy’s Tirano and Milan – includes flights, trains & more

Day 1: UK – Geneva – Brig

Board your Geneva-bound flight and before you know it you’ll be touching down in Geneva, ready to board your train on to the pretty Alpine town of Brig. Here, snow-capped mountains soar high around pretty stone streets and Baroque façades. You might just relax in the Brigerbad Thermal Baths, or pay a visit to the impressive Stockalper Palace, before settling into your snug hotel for the night.

With the six-night itinerary, you will stay two nights in Brig.

Day 2: Brig – Chur (Glacier Express)

Rise and shine to the crisp alpine air, and soon enough it’ll be time to board your exciting Glacier Express train ride from Brig Bahnhofplatz to Chur, roughly a four-hour journey. Behold utterly beautiful Swiss Alpine vistas (hard to glimpse from the road) from your cosy carriage with panoramic windows. There’s a kitchen and dining carriage if you wish to savour regional staples and wines as the scenes roll by. Look out at idyllic mountain villages, dense forests and dramatic gorges as you wind your way through some of the most beautiful sights the country has to offer.

Alight in the magical mountain town of Chur. Officially Switzerland's oldest city, Chur offers a captivating blend of ancient charm and natural alpine beauty. Check into your cosy hotel before venturing out to discover the fairy-tale old town, and be sure to stop at one of the quaint local restaurants to sample hearty regional delights.

Day 3: Chur – Tirano (Bernina Express)

Today, prepare to board your Bernina Express Red Train to Tirano en route to Italy, a journey of just over four hours. You’ll course through the emerald forests and glittering glaciers of the Swiss Alps, with the highest peaks clocking in at around 4000 metres. Sit back, relax, and you can even crack open a window to let the pure Alpine air rush in. It’s easy to see why this bucket-list Rhaetian Railway is a UNESCO-listed wonder: marvel at medieval villages and the many castles of Switzerland’s Domleschg Valley, swoop through looping tunnels and over beautiful bridges, scale the scenic Albula Pass and glide along the banks of the magical Lago Bianco.

Satiated by stunning scenery, you’ll twist south across the Italian border and into the pretty town of Tirano, before settling into your hotel for a good night’s rest.

Day 4: Tirano – Milan

After some fine Italian espresso to kickstart the day, get excited to board your final train to Milan, passing through the beautiful hills of northern Italy and skirting the full length of Lake Como.

Check into your Milan hotel, and trade the Alpine panoramas for stylish city slicking. Take to the streets of the world’s fashion capital, where a stroll through the Quadrilatero della Moda will take you past the glittering flagships of the world’s most famous fashion houses. A cosmopolitan haven, the city’s style prowess blends seamlessly with its centuries-old heritage, with the glamorous shops of Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II framed on either side by the historic Teatro alla Scala and the soaring spires of the Duomo. Book an optional ticket to explore the UNESCO-listed Gothic cathedral at ease, or tick off other bucket-list sights like Da Vinci’s Last Supper, the Sforza Castle, and art gems like the Pinacoteca di Brera and Museo Poldi Pezzoli.

Day 5: Milan – UK

Soak up any last city sights and collect souvenirs as time allows, before either making your own way or catching your private transfer to the airport for your UK-bound flight.
