Embark on a fully-guided, small-group or private adventure with safaris in Amboseli and Maasai Mara – includes flights, optional excursions & more

Days 1-2: UK/Ireland – Nairobi

Get excited as you make your way to the airport and board your Nairobi-bound flight. Once you touch down, your guide will greet you and transfer you to your Nairobi hotel. As you pass through the affectionately termed ‘Green City in the Sun’, marvel at wide open spaces peppered with trees, water features and soaring skyscrapers glinting in the sun. Settle in for a good night’s rest before venturing into the wilderness tomorrow.

Days 3-4: Amboseli National Park

After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the magnificent Amboseli National Park. Pass local homesteads en route and glimpse iconic Acacia trees as you whizz through the savanna surrounding Mount Kilimanjaro. Settle into the lodge in time for lunch, and either spend the afternoon at your leisure, or opt for an afternoon game drive through the park, with a chance to see elephants, lions, cheetahs, and a variety of bird species in their natural habitat. You’ll nip across the Tanzania border on your wildlife quest, with the smoky blue ridges of Kilimanjaro setting quite the backdrop.

If you can brace an early morning start, the next day presents a spectacular opportunity: join an optional hot-air balloon safari to see the expansive animal kingdom from up on high, bathed in the breaking dawn light. Whether you behold sunrise wonders or enjoy a lie-in, the day has plenty else in store. You’ll get to choose between a full-day Amboseli safari with mid-morning and early afternoon down time at camp, or a half-day game drive to explore the far reaches of the camp, returning to base for a late lunch, with more chill time until dinner.

Day 5: Lake Naivasha

After breakfast, you’ll journey north to Lake Naivasha, arriving in time for lunch. Behold the expansive freshwater lake of the Great Rift Valley, so large it sometimes swells with its own waves. You could trace the water’s edge and landscape at your leisure since there are no predators living here. Otherwise, crest the surface on an optional boat safari to Crescent Island, with a chance to see flamingos and hippos, and wander amongst zebras, giraffes, wildebeest and more biodiversity on the peninsula. Return to your lake lodge in time for dinner.

Days 6-8: Maasai Mara National Reserve – Nairobi

After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll depart for the world-renowned Maasai Mara National Reserve, famous for its ‘Big Five’ safaris of lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant and buffalo. As you chart your course through the Great Rift Valley, you’ll get to glimpse the settlement of Narok, the Maasai capital. You’ll arrive in time for lunch, enjoyed amidst the stunning savanna scenery, followed by leisure time all afternoon. The next morning, prepare to embark on an epic full-day game viewing drive through the lush, sunny splendour of the reserve. This is the quintessential Kenyan ‘Big Five’ safari, so keep your camera to hand.

Unwind over dinner in the balmy evening and drift off for your final sleep in the African wilderness. The next morning, you’ll have another chance to join an epic hot-air balloon safari, with sensational views across the savanna as the sun rises. Alternatively, you could opt to join a local Maasai village visit, and marvel at their craftsmanship and colourful clothing produce. At the end of the day, you’ll be transferred back to Nairobi to settle into your hotel for the night.

Day 9: Nairobi – UK/Ireland

Today, you’ll regrettably wave goodbye to many happy Kenyan memories, as you make your way to the airport for your homeward flight.

These airline-specific fees are not included in your holiday price unless stated. We recommend visiting your chosen airline's website directly to review their policies and understand any potential additional charges.

Optional excursion packages

The optional hot-air balloon safari is dependent on weather conditions at the destination and will be confirmed the day before. If the activity cannot go ahead, it will be refunded on return from your trip. Children must be four years and older to take part in Amboseli National Park, and seven years or older in Maasai Mara Reserve.

Road conditions

Roads in Kenya can be quite bumpy and are not in great condition, particularly those found in the country’s national parks. People who suffer with back problems should consider this before participating in a trip of this nature.

Safari additional information

Travellers should bring their own refillable water bottles, but there will be 500 ml reusable bottles for sale with a price of 10 USD each, the proceeds from which will be donated to entities dedicated to nature conservation.

The safari takes place in a vehicle with space for seven passengers, with one passenger seated next to the driver. The luggage compartment of these vehicles is limited, so for the safety and comfort of all, each person may only carry one soft duffel bag of maximum 10kg.

Weather conditions

In the case of adverse weather conditions, for safety reasons or for any other reasons deemed appropriate, the order and duration of the excursions included in the itinerary may be changed or cancelled without prior notice.

Reduced mobility access

If you have reduced mobility, require the use of a wheelchair, or you would prefer this tour to be a private experience for you and your group, you must contact the provider's experts at +44 20 8068 3176 before booking to ensure that your needs can be met.

Internet and facilities during travel

While on the road, it is highly unlikely that the vehicle will be equipped with Wi-Fi or bathroom facilities, though rest stops will be made for long trips. We recommend purchasing a new SIM card at the airport or placing an e-SIM before travel to guarantee internet connection.

Hotel category

Accommodation at the hotels is as indicated. In the event of any changes to accommodation, they will always be of the same, or a higher category. The category of hotels is not standardised across all countries in the world. For this reason, the criteria may differ depending on the destination country's own standards.
