Explore the beautiful surroundings of North Yorkshire and County Durham from a charming Grade II-listed hotel with renowned restaurant on the county borders, in a pretty riverside village – includes breakfast, one dinner credit, and late check-out

  • Georgian glamour: Dating back to 1835, The Croft Hotel is a landmark building in the village of Croft-on-Tees. The stately property has masses of character, with the 29 modern bedrooms sympathetically designed to incorporate all the older elements of the building, while enjoying beautifully elegant finishing touches. Relax amongst the roaring log fires, stylish bedrooms and cosy communal spaces, perfect for short stays or longer adventures.

  • Dining near Darlington: There’s no need to go far for a delicious dinner – the hotel’s restaurant offers everything from mouth-watering hot and cold breakfasts to light soups and sandwiches for lunch and delectable dinners of local classics – think lamb and beef from Northumbria, catch of the day from the nearby coast or bountiful sharing platters. Menus change depending on what’s in season, so you can expect everything to be fresh and full of flavour.

  • Much to see and do: Get to know the surrounding area, whether you’re a lover of the outdoors or prefer exploring historical sights. Top draw days out include hiking in the moors of North Yorkshire, visiting High Force Waterfall in the Durham Dales, tripping around the museums of Bowes or Darlington Railway Museum, or driving your dream car around the local supercar circuit – ask the hotel to recommend their top things to see and do.

Darlington

Croft-on-Tees is a charming village on the river Tees, with a historic centre. It’s in a great position if you love the outdoors: the wild and windswept North York Moors are a mere 30 minutes’ drive away, offering stunning vistas from a wide-ranging network of remote paths and well-trodden trails – a hikers’ paradise. Similarly, the North Pennines are about 45 minutes west, while the Yorkshire Dales are about 40 minutes south west. Of the Durham Dales, the area’s main heritage attraction, at just 15 miles from the hotel, is the medieval Raby Castle with its 200-acre deer park, ideal for summer days out and lazy afternoon picnics.

In Durham, the 900-year-old cathedral and Durham Castle are not to be missed, and just a 30-minute drive away you'll also find the beautiful market town of Barnard Castle, home to its namesake castle and the Bowes Museum, an art gallery with plenty of great fashion and design exhibitions.

On your doorstep, the charming market town of Darlington offers amusements aplenty when you’re looking for entertainment. Learn about the industrial history of the town at Hopetown Darlington, a captivating journey through the history of railways boasting impressive locomotives and interactive exhibits. Head to Darlington Markets (closed Tuesday and Wednesday) when you’re feeling peckish and wander the stalls in search of a tasty bite, and perhaps catch a show at the Darlington Hippodrome for an evening of fun in an early 20th-century music hall.
