A modern hotel just a 15-minute walk from central Verona, with an elegant restaurant serving traditional Italian cuisine - includes breakfast and a dining discount

  • Superb location: Hotel Leon d’Oro is a plush, modern hotel set a 15-minute walk from the city centre. Alongside sumptuous guest rooms fully equipped with modern conveniences, you’ll find plenty of large open communal spaces to enjoy when you're not enjoying Romeo and Juliet-themed adventures, sipping your way around the city's wine bars or nipping across the many bridges that span the Adige River.

  • Authentic dining: The hotel’s restaurant serves classic Italian cuisine; traditional dishes are given a global twist and rustled up using fresh, seasonal ingredients and plenty of regional products like succulent Parma ham, arborio risotto rice and local cheeses. For less formal occasions head to the lounge and bar, where classic International snacks can be enjoyed alongside a lengthy menu of coffees, cocktails, beers and cold drinks.

  • Inviting accommodation: A picture of understated elegance, guestrooms are all gleaming wood and earthy tones, shot through with bursts of muted gold and rich chocolate-browns. A smattering of classic furnishings and softly-lit floor lamps break up the sleek minimalism, while en suite bathrooms feature swathes of polished stone.

How to get there

The hotel is situated just 11 kilometres from Verona Airport, and just a 750-metre walk from Porta Nuova station if you're arriving by train. If you happen to be driving, the hotel is in a handy location for the Verona Sud exit of the motorway.

Entry requirements

The passport, visa and health requirements at the time of booking can be viewed on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website for UK citizens, and on the Department of Foreign Affairs website for IE citizens. It is your responsibility to ensure that you and all members of your party are in possession of all necessary travel and health documents, and in compliance with any other immigration/entry requirements before you travel, including whether your passport must be machine readable or which visas/waivers may be required for entry, such as ESTA for USA travel and/or ETIAS for EU travel. Please also be sure to check the validity of your passport and allow up to 10 weeks for passport renewals.

Verona
More than just Romeo and Juliet’s hometown, Verona is a vibrant city filled with extraordinary Romanesque architecture, Instagram-worthy bridges, palace-lined squares, and beautiful art, as well as boasting an excellent food and wine scene. Arm yourself with a 24-hour museum pass (a Verona Card) and you can hop around some of the city’s hot spots.

You're also less than two kilometres from the Arena di Verona - a huge, 1st-century Roman amphitheatre that today hosts opera performances and concerts, so try and grab a show if you can. If it’s Shakespeare’s tragic tale that draws you to fair Verona (where we lay our scene), head to Juliet’s house, stand on the balcony and call out for Romeo to your heart’s desire. Whilst you’re there, write a message to your loved ones on the wall - now a famous tradition - and pay a visit to Juliet’s bronze statue for an extra bit of romantic luck. Next up on your star-crossed lovers tour is San Zeno, an enchanting neighbourhood home to one of Italy’s oldest churches: San Zeno Maggiore. Here, you’ll find St Zeno’s crypt, believed to be the location of where Romeo and Juliet got married in Shakespeare’s heartbreaking play.

Wander around the city’s magical squares, such as Piazza delle Erbe or Piazza dei Signori, and lose yourself amongst the olde-worlde cobblestone streets. If you fancy a day trip, Verona sits at the bottom of Lake Garda - only one-hour-and-a-half drive away. The hotel is also moments from Porta Nuova train station, so you can head off on a rail adventure to one of the nearby cities: Milan, Venice and Bologna can all be reached in a bit over an hour.
