Karlovy Vary
Karlovy Vary is world-renowned for its thermal springs, and the best way to experience them is a stroll through the town’s elegant colonnades. The Mill Colonnade is a neo-Renaissance masterpiece, while the Vřídlo (Hot Spring) shoots water up to 12 metres high. Be sure to buy a traditional porcelain cup to sip the mineral waters as you wander the promenade. For a change of perspective, take the funicular railway up to the Diana Observation Tower. The journey through the forest is lovely, and the view from the top offers a sweeping panorama of the spa town and surrounding hills. Afterward, you can walk back down through the woods for a breath of fresh air.
The region is also famous for its glass and liqueur. You can visit the Moser Museum to see master glassblowers in action, or stop by the Jan Becher Museum to learn the history of Becherovka, the herbal liqueur often jokingly referred to as the town’s ‘thirteenth spring’.
