This self-drive journey invites you to discover the nation’s fabulous fjords, navigating the legendary hairpin bends of the Trollstigen and the historic wharfs of Bergen. Your adventure is complete with a majestic cruise on the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, where sheer mountain walls plunge into the water, with the option to delve deeper into the wild on the narrow, dramatic Nærøyfjord.
Tailor your route through the Nordic landscape with a choice of four distinct itineraries, ranging from a classic seven-night highlights tour to an immersive twelve-night voyage. You might choose to extend your compass north to drive the serpentine Atlantic Road and discover the gothic spires of Trondheim, or follow the sun south to the white-washed, coastal charm of Stavanger and Kristiansand. Day 4 or 7: Geirangerfjord cruise
Step aboard for a one-hour voyage through the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, revered as the wildest of all Norwegian fjords. With your car stowed on board, glide through waters where sheer granite walls rise 1,700 metres toward the sky, narrowing to just 250 metres at the most dramatic turns. This majestic passage reveals a living masterpiece of cascading waterfalls – including the famous ‘Seven Sisters’ and ‘Bridal Veil’ – and abandoned farms clinging precariously to the cliffs, before you disembark in Hellesylt.
Optional excursion
If you’d like to make your trip even more unforgettable, you can also book the following optional excursion. This can be selected in the booking process.
Day 5 or 8: Nærøyfjord cruise
Venture deeper into the wild on an optional two-and-a-half hour cruise along the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord, the Sognefjord’s narrowest and most dramatic arm. Drive your car aboard at Kaupanger, before cruising through a landscape where emerald waters mirror snow-dusted peaks, creating a mesmerizing play of light under the midnight sun. The voyage concludes in Gudvangen, leaving you with memories of Norway’s most ethereal scenery. Please note that this excursion is only available from 15 May to 30 September.
