Historic fellside abode: Three Shires Inn invites you to slow down and embrace classic Cumbrian hospitality. Dating back to 1872, this stone-built inn has been a beloved stop along the valley’s walking trails for over a century. Full, hearty flavours: Dining at the inn centres around wholesome comfort and local flavours. Start your morning with a freshly cooked full English before taking on the surrounding trails. As evening falls, pull up a chair in the bar area to sample Cumbrian real ales, local spirits, and a seasonal menu with regional ingredients.

Restful countryside retreat: Your cosy guest accommodation offers a peaceful sanctuary to unwind. Beautifully appointed guest rooms seamlessly blend traditional Lakeland character with modern comfort, creating a warm, inviting setting to kick off your boots, sink into crisp linens, and enjoy a restful night’s sleep.
How to get there
The inn is located in Little Langdale, roughly a 25-minute drive from Windermere railway station and a 45-minute drive from Oxenholme Lake District train station. We’d recommend hiring a car in order to get the most out of this beautiful area.

Ambleside
Little Langdale offers a peaceful, unspoilt setting surrounded by dramatic slate formations and ancient woodland. A short walk from the front door leads to Slater’s Bridge, a picturesque 17th-century slate packhorse bridge spanning the River Brathay, and the majestic Cathedral Quarry, an impressive subterranean slate cavern with a soaring central pillar. For dramatic water views, follow the valley paths towards Little Langdale Tarn or hike over the pass to Blea Tarn. A short drive away, the bustling market town of Ambleside provides independent boutiques, traditional tea rooms, and access to the shores of Lake Windermere.
