Want to relax and enjoy a cultural city break? This is perfect! Enjoy Vilnius inc. hotel, breakfast and guided excursion to Trakai

Baroque architecture, ancient history and plenty of modern flair - this is Vilnius, one of the oldest cities in Europe, and a wonderful place to explore on foot. The city is divided into two parts: the modern district that invites you to stroll and the historic city centre, with cobblestone streets, centuries-old buildings and several churches. Vilnius is often called the "Rome of the East", with over 50 churches in the old town that testify to the eventful past of the city, and the residents of the city claim that you can see several churches from each era in the old town. On the second day of your trip, take a trip back in time to the Middle Ages - to Trakai! The city is around 30 kilometres from Vilnius and in addition to the medieval city centre, filled with colourful houses, you'll also see the old moated castle. If you fancy a city trip where you can escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this trip is the ideal one for you!

Vilnius

Vilnius is truly unique, yet often overlooked as a travel destination. In the capital of Lithuania, in the middle of the Baltic States, historic quarters and modern architecture meet in a distinctive manner. You'll find a wealth of cultural diversity here, reflected in the welcoming nature of the residents and their openness. Vilnius impresses with over 50 churches, earning the city the nickname "Rome of the East", and is also the seat of the Lithuanian government, as well as the impressive presidential palace. Because of the well preserved nature of the historic architecture of the city, the old town of Vilnius was included in the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage in 1994 and was named European Capital of Culture in 2009, together with Linz. The capital of Lithuania is also known for its modern, future-oriented architecture and a lively, cultural atmosphere. But if you really want to understand Vilnius, you have to see it with your own eyes and take a stroll through the streets yourself!

From Vilnius to Trakai including a guided excursion to the moated castle

On this excursion you will visit the former capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Trakai! You travel in an air-conditioned minibus from Vilnius to Trakai (28 km, approx. 30-minute drive) and spend half a day in the picturesque lake region. Upon arrival, explore the historic city and the well-preserved ruins of Trakai Castle, located on its own island in Lake Galva. The castle, built in the 14th century, was once of extreme strategic importance and fell into disrepair in the 17th century. Reconstructed after the Second World War to restore it to its 15th century splendour, it is now an important landmark of Lithuania. You will also learn more about the small ethnic Karaite group that has settled in Trakai, along with Tartars, Russians, Jews and Poles, and enjoy panoramic views of Lake Galva, the deepest of the region's 200 lakes. The excursion takes around 4 hours and includes transfer, entry and a guided tour of the Trakai Castle Museum with an English-speaking guide.
