Italy's Lake Como is legendary the world over for its shimmering water (all 120 kilometres of it), spectacular mountain scenery and invigoratingly fresh air. Starting your trip with an idyllic stay near its shores, in the town of Albavilla just 20 minutes' drive away, you'll have plenty of time to spend soaking up its entrancing beauty and reconnecting with nature. For the perfect day out and about, fall in love with the romantic ‘pearl of the lake’ Bellagio or seek out Renaissance splendour in the town of Como, where you can enjoy lovely walks along the promenade or perhaps a boat journey to experience the lake at its finest.
You'll then drive for just under four hours towards the peaks of South Tyrol, where you'll embrace mountain life in Rio di Pusteria. Considered the gateway to the Pusteria Valley, a winter wonderland for skiers and a summer staple for hikers, there's plenty of fun to be had all year round here. It makes a great base to explore the surrounding communes such as Maranza, Balles, and Spinga, although should you prefer to stay closer to home, you can let loose with some miniature golf and feast on Tyrolean cuisine that's sure to warm your heart.
