Vrbnik
Cast adrift from mainland Croatia, the sprawling island of Krk is home to Vrbnik, an ancient village perched on a rugged limestone cliff edging the eastern coast, ringed by manicured vineyards and glistening Adriatic views. The cobbled alleyways of Vrbnik are well worth wandering, with their quiet cafes and restaurants. Wander around until you find Klančić, the narrowest street in the world, measuring only 40 centimetres wide. Head a little way down the coast for the day to Mala Laka beach, an idyllic, quiet stretch of sand, perfect for taking a dip in the warm Adriatic. Try the traditional dish called Šurlice, a special type of pasta indigenous to the Island of Krk. Or, go on a wine-tasting tour and learn about the sparkling wine which ferments at the bottom of the Island of Krk sea.
