In the shadow of Mount Athos
You’ll be staying on the magical Athos peninsula, the easternmost of the three smaller peninsulas that make up the “Poseidon’s Trident” of Halkidiki - so-called after its three-pronged structure. This area is known for its breathtaking and largely untouched natural scenery, and you’ll be well-placed to take it all in; hire a bike to explore local trails, or if you’re keen to make a splash, why not try your hand at snorkelling and scuba diving?
Perhaps your most famous neighbour here is Holy Mount Athos, home to a centuries-old Eastern Orthodox monastery that rarely admits outsiders. The closest you can get is a boat tour around the mountain, but with spellbinding views and an aura of mysticism drifting out with the monks’ ancient chants, you’re bound to feel something of the Byzantine buzz.
