Ischia
As islands go, Italy’s Ischia is one of the Mediterranean's most intriguing and perhaps one of its most underrated, thanks to its better-known neighbour - Capri - stealing all the limelight. But beautiful Ischia offers up its very own host of Italian delights - a labyrinth of thermal spa towns, magical forests and ancient vineyards. As you explore the island at your own pace, history buffs should make a beeline for the medieval Aragonese Castle, while hikers and nature-lovers shouldn't pass up on a visit to Giardini la Mortella and Mount Epomeo - the latter comes with ravishing, far-reaching sea views. You could always, of course, simply choose to recline on one of many beaches, before soaking in mineral-rich waters at one of the island's spas.
Procida
Offering bucket-loads of shabby-chic vibes and colourful charm, Procida provides a slightly different flavour of Italian island life. Conveniently off the tourist radar and just four square kilometres in size, here you'll find a jolly jumble of rustic pastel-hued houses, narrow cobbled streets, fishing boats filled with freshly caught fish, and lemon groves at every turn. It's this Italian charm that bagged the island an appearance in Jude-Law-in-his-hey-day flic, The Talented Mr Ripley.
Capri
Always a charmer and filled with rugged personality all the way out to its iconic cliffs, Capri is an unmissable dot in the Bay of Naples. Its eponymous main town is sprawled across a rocky and verdant hillside, and is a glorious place within which to get your fill of sunshine and old-world glamour. Take in glittering sea vistas from the Augustus Gardens, stroll along the lively port, and enjoy a spot of retail therapy in Via Camerelle's boutiques. For something a little more adventurous, why not head out to the enchanting Blue Grotto for an exceptional scuba diving experience?
