Day 1: UK/Ireland - Bogotá
Say ‘hola’ to Colombia as you touch down in the bustling capital of Bogotá after an overnight flight. Upon arrival, you’ll transfer to your hotel to rest up after your travels - your epic Colombian adventure begins tomorrow.
Days 2-3: Bogotá
After breakfast, you’ll take to the streets for a panoramic tour of Bogotá, ready to discover Colombia’s most iconic city. Wind your way through the atmospheric streets of the historic La Candelaria neighbourhood, and immerse yourself in the country’s artistic heritage at the Botero Museum, named after the celebrated Colombian artist. Later on, hit the magnificent Plaza de Bolívar to admire majestic buildings like the Palace of San Carlos, the Primatial Cathedral and Lievano Palace, before stopping by the Gold Museum to marvel at ancient pieces crafted by pre-Columbian goldsmiths. Round it off with a cable-car or funicular ride up to Cerro de Monserrate for breathtaking views of the city, before returning to your hotel to enjoy the rest of the day as you wish.
Spend the following day in Bogotá at leisure, exploring the historic plazas and cobbled streets of the capital, or perhaps climbing the Monserrate mountain for spellbinding views out across the Andes. You also have the option of visiting the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira, a popular Catholic pilgrimage site built in an old salt mine tunnel 200 metres underground, and home to spectacular hand-carved decorations.
Day 4: Bogotá - Armenia
This morning, you’ll set off from Bogotá to the Cocora Valley in Quindío. Gaze out at the soaring peaks and awe-inspiring landscapes of the surrounding national park, before enjoying a refreshing welcome cocktail on arrival. From here, you’ll get to explore a magical cloud forest, and discover the ancient indigenous rituals associated with Colombia’s national plant, the Quindío wax palm. Next up, you’ll head to the charming town of Salento to visit Plaza de Bolívar and the Cocora viewpoint for more sweeping scenery, before travelling on to Armenia to spend the rest of the day at your leisure.
Day 5: Armenia - Medellín
It’s back to the city today, as you head to the airport ready to fly to the hillside metropolis of Medellín. After settling in at your hotel, you’ll have the remainder of the day to spend as you please, soaking up the vibrant music scene, cultural treasures and balmy climate of the so-called ‘City of Eternal Spring.’
Days 6-7: Medellín
Explore Medellín’s highlights with a guided city tour this morning, beginning with a deep-dive into the city’s tumultuous history at the Casa Museo de la Memoria. Next, you’ll ride a cable car up to La Sierra, an up-and-coming neighbourhood where you can witness the city’s social and urban transformation efforts. Spend the rest of the day as you wish, perhaps discovering Colombia’s rich artistic heritage at the Antioquia Museum or taking a stroll through Plaza Botero.
You’ll also have the following day free to explore - why not sample local flavours from the city’s street-food stalls, or explore the street art scene in the vibrant Commune 13? For something a little different, opt for an excursion to the vast Peñol reservoir to climb the 724 steps of the famous Peñol Stone, topped up with a visit to the picturesque town of Guatapé and a relaxing cruise in the reservoir.
Day 8: Medellín - Santa Marta
After a week of action-packed sightseeing, it’s time for some well-deserved beach bliss. Today you’ll hop on a flight to Santa Marta, a beautiful port city on Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Take some time to unwind at your hotel and enjoy your stunning surroundings, and round off the day with a romantic stroll along the beach.
Day 9: Santa Marta
Spend today at leisure in lovely Santa Marta, soaking up the Old Town’s Spanish-style architecture or simply kicking back on the beach. Alternatively, switch things up with a thrilling day-trip to the Tayrona National Natural Park, where you’ll enjoy a two-hour hike through tropical forest trails, complete with stunning natural scenery, sublime views, and a refreshing dip in a natural pool.
Day 10: Santa Marta - Cartagena
Say goodbye to Santa Marta as you transfer to Cartagena, a delightful coastal city and one of Colombia’s main ports. Boasting colourful streets, leafy plazas, and plenty of quirky bars and eateries, the city is fast becoming a favourite among discerning travellers, and you’ll have the next few days to uncover all of its charms.
Days 11-12: Cartagena
Make your own way to the pier this morning to embark on a full-day excursion to the Rosario Islands. You’ll hop on a shared speedboat ride for a scenic one-hour journey with spectacular views of the Bay of Cartagena and Boca Chica, before dropping anchor on the heavenly shores of the Rosario Islands. This idyllic, largely untouched archipelago is the ultimate castaway destination, where you’ll love whiling away your hours on the beach and frolicking in the warm waters of the Caribbean. Later on, tuck into an included lunch and perhaps opt to visit the San Martín de Pajares Aquarium, before returning to Cartagena in the mid-afternoon and spending the rest of your day at leisure.
The next day is yours to explore at your own pace, and you can tick off Cartagena’s highlights with an optional private tour of the city - you’ll see historic sites and dazzling colonial architecture as you wind your way through the Boca Grande, Castillo Grande and Manga neighbourhoods approaching the majestic Castillo de San Felipe, before visiting the Church of San Pedro Claver and finishing up in the charming Old Town.
Day 13: Cartagena - UK/Ireland
After a whirlwind adventure through Colombia’s cultural and natural highlights, today you’ll say ‘adiós’ to this fascinating country as you transfer to the airport for your flight home.
