Journey across Japan’s tantalising Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, with a Mount Fuji visit - includes flights, a bullet train ticket, excursions and more

Day 1: UK/Ireland - Night on board

Arrive at the airport for your overnight flight to Tokyo. Please note, if your outbound flight leaves before 4am, you must arrive at the airport the night before your selected departure day.

Day 2: Tokyo

Arrive in Tokyo and self-transfer to your hotel using your included Subway pass. Spend the afternoon at leisure, exploring the city at your own pace - why not head to one of the food markets for a taste of local cuisine?

Day 3: Tokyo

Today you'll take a full-day Tokyo city tour. Self-transfer using your included Subway pass to the famous 'Love' statue in Shinjuku, which is where you'll kick things off. Drive past the Harajuku shopping district en route to the Meiji Jingu Shinto Shrine, followed by the National Diet Building and Imperial Palace. Next, stop in the historic Asakusa neighbourhood, home to the Senso-ji Temple Kaminari-mon Gate and Nakamise shopping avenue. Enjoy a Matcha tasting experience and a Japanese lunch at a local Izakaya restaurant, all before climbing the Tokyo Skytree tower, from which you can admire the infinite Tokyo skyline. In the afternoon, board a river cruise that'll take you through the Tokyo Bay to Odaiba Island, ending the tour back at Shinjuku.

Day 4: Tokyo

On day 4, you'll come face-to-face with famous Mount Fuji. Self-transfer using your Subway pass once more, to the same meeting point as the day before, and head up to the 5th Station. Stop at the Michi no Eki Subashiri viewing area, where you can marvel at the views from above the clouds. You'll then enjoy lunch at the Oshino Shinobu ninja-themed village, before heading to Owakudani Valley, also known as 'Hell Valley', where you'll get to witness hot springs and volcanic activity, and even try the famous 'black eggs', boiled in the sulphur pits. From there, ride the Hakone ropeway down to Ashi Crater Lake, where you'll soak up stunning views of Mount Fuji's silhouette as you sail on this pristine lake. Finally, return by bus to Shinjuku Station.

Please note that if road conditions or unforeseen circumstances restrict the ascent to the 5th station, you'll instead travel to the highest elevation possible considering the circumstances. The same also applies for the cruise on Ashi Crater Lake; if conditions or circumstances prevent sailing on the lake, alternative visits and experiences will be taken to replace the activity.

Day 5: Tokyo

Take time to explore Tokyo at your own pace - perhaps getting to know the shopping districts of Akihabara, known for its anime culture and camera bargains, or Shibuya, where you can see its iconic crosswalk and eclectic restaurants?

Day 6: Tokyo - Kyoto

Board the famous bullet train to Kyoto, the capital of the Japanese Empire for 11 centuries. Taking only two hours and 15 minutes, the train can reach speeds of 300 kilometres per hour. Once settled in Kyoto, explore at your own pace, perhaps heading to the emblematic neighbourhood of Gion, known for its traditional architecture and geishas.

Day 7: Kyoto

Set off on a full-day bus tour of Kyoto's highlights today. On this exciting excursion, you’ll visit the Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, the most important of the many shrines dedicated to Inari, known for its emblematic red ‘gates’. Next up is the Kiyomizu-Dera Temple, which is part of the Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto UNESCO World Heritage Site. Pay a visit to the Kinkakuji Temple next, known as the temple of the Golden Pavilion as the top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Finally, experience the immense natural beauty of the Arashiyama bamboo forest.

Day 8: Kyoto

Spend today exploring the delights of Kyoto at your own pace. Why not discover the historic Nijo Castle or the Philosopher's Walk, a beautiful footpath along a cherry-tree-lined canal? There's also an optional excursion to explore two World Heritage sites in Nara. Take the Kintetsu Express train there, where you'll encounter wild deer up close while walking through Nara Park, and see one of the world's largest wooden temples, Todai-Ji Temple.

Day 9: Kyoto - Osaka

Take a local train to Osaka. Upon arrival, the rest of the day is free to discover this charming city. Why not visit the Kuromon local market and its Floating Garden Observatory in the Umeda Sky Building, from which there is an unforgettable panoramic view of the city?

Day 10: Osaka

Spend today on a self-guided tour of Osaka. Make the most of your Osaka Metro + City Bus card to discover the city's main areas, while you'll also have an admission ticket for Osaka Castle, where you have the chance to learn about the history of one of Japan's most famous landmarks.

Day 11: Osaka

The cultural delights of Osaka await you today, where you can get to know the local area and sample the iconic local cuisine at your own pace. In fact, the street food markets of Osaka are said to be the best in the country, so you won't want to miss out.

Day 12: Osaka - Night on board

It's time to say goodbye to the Land of the Rising Sun as you transfer to the airport for your overnight flight back to the UK.

A number of Japanese cities impose an accommodation tax, which must be paid directly to the hotel.

Unfortunately, hotels in Japan have a reduced number of non-smoking rooms and we can not guarantee you will be allocated one in advance. Please note that double beds in Japanese hotels are not always the standard Western size and can sometimes be less wide.
